Demons pull away from Booker T. with big innings
By TIFFANY BELL SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The Beggs High School baseball team broke open a tight game with a decisive middle stretch, defeating Booker T. Washington 9-2 on April 9 behind timely hitting and a steady effort on the mound.

Beggs struck first in the opening inning when a single by Colton McCoy brought home the game’s first run for an early 1-0 lead. The score held through the next two innings as both teams settled into a pitching rhythm.

The Demons created separation in the fourth inning, pushing across four runs to extend the lead to 5-0. The offensive surge shifted momentum firmly in Beggs’ favor and gave the pitching staff room to work.

Booker T. Washington answered in the fifth inning with a run to cut into the deficit, but Beggs responded immediately. The Demons plated two runs in the fifth and added two more in the sixth, building a 9-2 advantage heading into the final frame.

On the mound, Kash Coale provided a strong start, working five innings while allowing four hits and one run. He struck out two and walked one, keeping Booker T. Washington from mounting sustained rallies. Landon Helt came on in relief, covering the final two innings and allowing one run while striking out one.

Offensively, Beggs produced 12 hits and showed patience at the plate with seven walks. Jerrett Hammer, Helt and Kevin Monteque each recorded two hits to lead a balanced lineup. McCoy paced the team in run production, finishing with two RBIs.

The Demons also capitalized on opportunities with runners on base, totaling eight RBIs on the night. Two extra- base hits helped generate scoring chances, and Beggs added pressure on the base paths with three stolen bases, including two by Ethan Davison.

Despite the win, Beggs’ defense faced some challenges, committing four errors that led to additional opportunities for Booker T. Washington. However, the pitching staff limited the damage, allowing just two total runs.

Booker T. Washington collected four hits in the contest, with several players contributing singles. The home team remained disciplined defensively, not committing an error, but was unable to match Beggs’ offensive output during the middle innings.

Overall, Beggs combined timely hitting, aggressive baserunning and effective pitching to secure the 9-2 victory. The four-run fourth inning proved to be the turning point, allowing the Demons to take control and maintain it through the final outs.

With the win, Beggs continues to build momentum, showing improvement at the plate and consistency on the mound as the season progresses.
