Garden lovers and community supporters alike are invited to dig into spring at the Okmulgee FFA’s annual plant sale fundraiser, set for this Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.
The event will be held at the Okmulgee Agricultural Education building, located at 610 N. Central Ave., where a wide variety of homegrown plants will be available for purchase.
From garden staples to seasonal favorites, shoppers can choose from squash, zucchini, pumpkins, cucumbers, watermelon and cantaloupe. Plants will be sold in both six-packs and individual containers, offering options for gardeners of all experience levels – from beginners planting their first beds to seasoned growers expanding their harvest.
What makes the sale especially meaningful is the hands-on work behind it. Every plant available has been grown by Okmulgee FFA students, who take part in every step of the process. Students carefully select the varieties, nurture the plants from seed and implement pest control strategies using only natural oils.
That environmentally conscious approach not only protects the plants but also supports pollinators – an important part of maintaining healthy gardens and ecosystems.
This is truly a student- led effort from start to finish, students are learning valuable skills in agriculture, responsibility and sustainability.
Beyond the plants themselves, the sale serves a larger purpose. Proceeds directly support the Okmulgee FFA program, helping fund a wide range of student activities. These include travel to competitive events, participation in the State FFA Convention and other educational opportunities that help students grow both personally and professionally.
With warm weather settling in and planting season in full swing, the timing couldn’t be better to pick up fresh, locally grown plants while supporting a great cause.
Whether you’re planning a backyard garden, refreshing your landscape, or simply looking to support local students, the Okmulgee FFA plant sale offers something for everyone.
Residents are encouraged to stop by, browse the selection and meet the students behind the project.
