Crash involved Okmulgee County District #1 truck
A Muskogee woman succumbed to injuries sustained last week in a crash in Muskogee.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol investigated the collision on Feb. 8 at 12:30 p.m. on County Road 64th Street West and Okmulgee Street in Muskogee.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a pickup truck driven by Carrie Delay, 53, was westbound on Okmulgee Street. The truck was in the outside lane, while a 2019 Freightliner was heading west also, but was in the inside left lane of the fourlane road.
Upon approaching County Road 64th Street West, Delay reportedly turned southbound directly in front of the other truck and was struck.
After being extricated by the Muskogee Fire Department, Delay was transported by Muskogee EMS to St Francis Muskogee and then to St. Francis Tulsa with head and trunk internal injuries. She was pronounced deceased later that afternoon from injuries sustained from the accident.
The other vehicle was an Okmulgee County District #1 truck driven by Joseph Watts, 51, of Okmulgee. District #1 Commissioner Erik Zoellner stated the employee was bringing the truck back to the county after being repaired, when the crash occurred.
“The female driver … for some reason accelerated in front of him,” Zoellner said, “and (our driver) had no time to react.”
The OHP reports attributed the crash to an ‘improper turn.’
Handling the investigation was Trooper Nolan Philpott of the Muskogee County detachment of Troop C, along with other troopers, along with the Muskogee County Sheriff ’s Department, Mountain View Fire Department and Muskogee Fire Department.
