Area residents will have an opportunity to safely dispose of unused medications and medical sharps during a special take-back event scheduled for Wednesday, April 15, at OSUIT.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Covelle Hall on the OSUIT campus, located at E. 3rd St. in Okmulgee. Participants are encouraged to

Organizers emphasize that the event provides a safe and anonymous way for individuals to dispose of expired or unused medications, as well as medical sharps such as needles and syringes. Proper disposal helps prevent accidental misuse, protects the environment, and reduces potential hazards in homes and communities.
This year’s event will also include the collection of medical sharps, expanding disposal options for residents who may not otherwise have access to proper sharps disposal methods.
The take-back initiative is made possible through a partnership involving multiple agencies, including the OSUIT Police Department, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, OSU Institute of Technology, OSU Department of Wellness, Okmulgee County Criminal Justice Authority and Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
Officials say events like this play a vital role in addressing public safety and environmental concerns, while also helping combat prescription drug misuse.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this free service and ensure that unused medications and sharps are disposed of responsibly.
