Morris City Council meets

The Morris City Council and Morris Public Works Authority met Dec. 9 at the Morris Community Center, with Mayor Joe Berryhill presiding over both meetings.

The regular meeting of the Morris City Council was called to order at 7 p.m. following an invocation given by Mayor Berryhill. Roll call showed Councilmembers Sharp, Robinson, Peavler and Seamans present. A quorum was declared.

Council members approved the minutes from the Nov. 12, 2025, meeting following a motion by Councilman Sharp and a second by Councilwoman Peavler. The vote was unanimous.

Authorization for the payment of claims was approved next. Councilwoman Robinson made the motion, which was seconded by Councilman Seamans. The item passed unanimously.

— Department Reports

Monthly activity reports were presented by city departments.

Police Chief Boyd reported 120 contacts and eight written citations issued within the city in November.

Fire Chief Stewart reported one public service call for the city fire department during the month. He also reported that the rural fire department responded to three motor vehicle accidents, two EMS assists, one smoke investigation and one vehicle fire.

City Superintendent Christianson reported on Morris Public Works Authority activity, noting one cemetery opening, five work orders completed, two sewer mains jetted, and the installation of 45 AMR meters during November. The total number of installed AMR meters now stands at 102.

— Business Items

The council heard a presentation from representatives of Sowin Seeds Daycare regarding a portable building. Following discussion, Councilman Seamans made a motion to table the item, seconded by Councilwoman Robinson. The motion passed unanimously.

Council members then considered Resolution No. 25-05 regarding authorization for OMAG to distribute escrow account funds. Councilwoman Robinson made a motion to leave the escrow account unchanged, with a second from Councilwoman Peavler. The motion passed unanimously.

The ecoLink contract was approved following a motion by Councilwoman Robinson and a second by Councilman Sharp.

Council members also approved the schedule of 2026 city council meeting dates and the schedule of 2026 court dates. Both items passed unanimously.

There were no comments or inquiries from the council.

Councilwoman Peavler made a motion to adjourn, which was seconded by Councilwoman Robinson. The meeting adjourned at 7:37 p.m.

— Morris Public Works Authority

The Morris Public Works Authority meeting was called to order immediately following the city council meeting at 7:37 p.m. Roll call confirmed the presence of Sharp, Robinson, Peavler and Seamans.

Authority members approved the Nov. 12 meeting minutes following a motion by Councilman Sharp and a second by Councilwoman Robinson.

Authorization for the payment of claims was approved following a motion by Councilwoman Peavler and a second by Councilwoman Robinson.

There were no comments or inquiries from the authority.

Councilman Seamans made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Councilman Sharp. The meeting adjourned at 7:39 p.m.
