On to the Next Round

Two Okmulgee County football teams are still standing after a dominant opening round of the OSSAA postseason. Both the Dewar Dragons and the Wilson Tigers delivered convincing wins Friday night, each punching their ticket to this week’s quarterfinal matchups.

Below is a full breakdown of each team’s playoff win, detailed scoring for Wilson district awards, and what the road ahead looks like in both Class B-I and B-II.

— Dragons crush Foyil, extend home win-streak to 11 The Dewar Dragons had no trouble continuing their regular-season success into postseason play. On Senior Night, Dewar overwhelmed the Foyil Panthers 54-6, marking yet another blowout performance in a season filled with them – their eighth win by 46 points or more.

Already known for their defensive power, the Dragons once again dominated on that side of the ball, holding Foyil far below their season average. Dewar has allowed only 4.7 points per game this year, one of the stingiest defensive marks in the state.

This victory extends Dewar’s home winning streak to 11 games dating back to last season and improves their record to 9-2. Foyil’s loss dropped them to 6-5 and marked their third straight defeat.

— Dewar Scoring Summary

Coach Matt Ross and the Dewar Dragons now prepare for a quarterfinal showdown with Waurika, who squeaked past Oklahoma Bible in a 22-20 thriller. The win was revenge for Waurika, who lost 45-0 to the Trojans in 2022.

Waurika enters at 6-5, while Dewar comes in riding a six-game winning streak and one of the most dominant point differentials in Class B-I.

According to the OSSAA playoff bracket, the winner advances to the semifinals on Nov. 28.

— Tigers power to 48-28 playoff win

At Wilson Field, the Wilson Tigers delivered a powerful postseason statement with a 48-28 victory over Covington-Douglas. The Tigers’ offense lit up the scoreboard with 24 fourth-quarter points, sealing the win in front of an excited home crowd.

This marks Wilson’s fourth straight home victory, improving their record to 6-2. Over those four games, the Tigers have won by an average of 31 points.
