Okmulgee firefighters responded to a car crash Friday afternoon on Hwy 75 at the stoplight near Walmart. A BMW sedan, bearing a Georgia license plate, was reported by eyewitnesses going northbound in the southbound lane, avoiding several motorists, before the vehicle crashed near the Murphy’s Convenience Store. In the crash, the car engine caught on fire, but was extinguished by the OFD. However, the driver is alleged to have fled from the scene, and law enforcement were reportedly searching in the area throughout the evening. Complete details are not known, but may have been a federal case under investigation.
