Wilson ‘mauls’ Graham-Dustin in roundball showdown
By LARRY OWEN SPORTS EDITOR

The Wilson varsity basketball program came away with a pair of decisive victories Tuesday evening against their visitors from Graham-Dustin High School.

The Lady Tigers, who finished third overall at last weekend’s Muscogee Nation Invitational, began Tuesday’s home sweep with a convincing 74-18 victory, while the Tigers, who captured the boys championship last weekend in Okmulgee, remained unbeaten on the season in Tuesday’s nightcap, cruising to a 72-49 decision for their 17th win of the campaign.

The Wilson cagers will return to action Friday at home against Wetumka, then will travel to Glenpool on Saturday for a clash against the Class 4A powerhouses from Glenpool High School.

In Tuesday’s opening contest, the host Lady Tigers led 31-5 in the opening frame, then edged the visitors 7-4 in the second stanza for a 38-9 halftime advantage. The second half belonged to the Wilson ladies, who outscored the Lady Chieftains by a combined 36-9 to walk away with the lopsided 74–18 decision.

Kaozong Yang led the way offensively for the Lady Tigers, finishing with a game-high 14 points. Janelle Proctor and Reese Herring also recorded double-digit outputs in Tuesday’s victory with 11 points apiece.

The other offensive contributors for the Wilson ladies on Tuesday were Jayda Pinkston and Brooklyn Weeks with eight each, Kayla McCracken six, Ty Williams, Allie Thompson, and Jaslene Proctor four apiece, and Gracie Bear and Kaylee Earhart two each.

In Tuesday’s nightcap, the Tigers took the opening period by a 21-8 margin, then outscored the Chieftains 27-11 in the second quarter for a commanding 48-19 lead at the intermission.

The visitors tallied 15 points in each stanza in the second half, while the Wilson gentlemen countered with offensive totals of 11 and 13 points, respectively, to walk away with the decisive 72-49 victory.

Esiah King was the top offensive contributor for the Tigers in the double-digit win, finishing with a team-best 17 points. Keshon Shelburn was next in the scoring column for Wilson with 16, followed by Zion Shelburn with 14 and Charles Shelburn with 10. Other Tiger scorers against Graham-Dustin were Alec Ganote with seven, Andrew Wilson four, and Tepoyv Williams and Aiden Barnard two apiece.
