Community support, donations sought
In response to the impending cold weather, the City of Okmulgee, in collaboration with First United Methodist Church and Okmulgee County Emergency Management, is proud to announce the opening of a warming shelter at 302 S. Seminole Ave. The shelter will open its doors Friday, Jan. 12, at 5 p.m. and is expected to remain operational until Wednesday, Jan. 17, at noon.
The city urges community members to come together to support this initiative by volunteering their time during the shelter’s operating hours. Volunteers are crucial to ensuring the smooth operation of the warming shelter and providing assistance to those seeking refuge from the cold.
Additionally, the shelter is in need of essential supplies such as water, snack items, and non-perishable food items, including ramen noodles. Those who wish to contribute can drop off donations at Dairy Queen, located at 6th and Wood.
Monetary donations are also being accepted through First United Methodist Church to cover expenses incurred in running the shelter and to support future operations. Every contribution, big or small, will make a meaningful impact on the success of this community-driven initiative.

The City of Okmulgee and Okmulgee County extend their gratitude to all volunteers, donors and partners involved in this effort, emphasizing the importance of community solidarity in times of need.
– The Okmulgee Library will also be open during normal business hours for those wanting to get out of the cold.
The YMCA will be open during the following hours:
• Friday: 5 a.m. – 9 p.m.
• Saturday: 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.
• Sunday: 1-6 p.m.
• Monday: Closed
• Tuesday: 5 a.m. – 9 p.m.
