It was a busy weekend for most county schools, as students and coaches, along with supporters, traveled the area to compete, some at State, while others were named champions and qualified to move to the next round.
Okmulgee
Okmulgee High School’s Academic Team is moving on to the Area Tournament following their placement over the weekend.
— Morris
The Morris High School Academic Team was named Academic Bowl 3A Regional Champions and are now preparing for the State competition under the leadership of Coach Jeremy Avery. The Morris High School Cheerleaders competed at the Game Day State Cheerleading meet at Moore, where they placed in the top 10 in Class 3A.
— Beggs
Beggs High School Cheerleaders placed in the top 15 in Class 3A at the Game Day State Championships at Moore.
— Preston
Preston High School’s Academic Team was named 3A Academic Regional Champions. They are coached by Jon Robertson. The Preston Cheer squad made Top 6 in Game Day State Competition Saturday.
— Henryetta
Henryetta High School Cheer placed 7th overall in the Game State State Championship. The Henryetta High School Academic Team placed 4th at Regionals, held at Wilburton High School, and will advance to the Area Tournament on Jan. 13, 2024.
— Football
In sports, both the Dewar Dragons and Wilson Tigers football teams advanced to the second round of the playoffs in their respective divisions following resounding wins Friday. See B section of today’s issue for more information.
