Three county squads continue search for first district win in Week 6
The 2023 high school football season reached its halfway point last week with Week 5 action.
One Okmulgee County team closed out its non-district schedule with a hard-fought double-digit victory, while another county squad stayed atop its district standings with a blowout win at home last Friday night.
The other four county gridiron squads in action last week found themselves on the losing end of double- digit decisions with one county team failing to reach the end zone in its district contest.
Below are the outcomes for all six Okmulgee County football teams in Week 5:
• Westville 56, Okmulgee 28
• Tahlequah Seq. 22, Henryetta 12
• Victory Christian 50, Beggs 34
• Kansas 41, Morris 0

Both teams enter the district opener with identical spotless 5-0 records with Webbers Falls having one extra week to prepare for the district opener due to opening its 2023 season during ‘Zero Week’ on August 25.
The Dragons’ 12-point win over Velma- Alma last Friday in Dewar closed out their non-district schedule for 2023.
Webbers Falls began the 2023 season August 25 at home against Keota and emerged from the season opener with a 42-28 victory over the visiting Lion squad.
The other non-district wins for the Sequoyah County team came against Wesleyan Christian (56-27), Arkoma (60-14), Oaks-Mission (53-8), and Cave Springs (58-16), respectively.
Dewar’s district opener against Webbers Falls on Friday will also be the Army National Guard Game of the Week.
The other county team that emerged victorious last week was the Wilson Tigers, who improved to 2-0 in district play with last Friday’s shutout win over Oaks-Mission – a contest that ended on the 45-point Mercy Rule at halftime.
The Tigers will put their spotless District C-3 record on the line this Friday with a trip to Copan and a district showdown with the Copan Hornets, who enter the Week 6 contest with a 2-3 record and 1-1 in district play. The two wins for the Hornets in 2023 have come against Foyil (42-9) on September 8 and Bluejacket (6820) two weeks later in their district opener. Copan’s three losses have come against Barnsdall (74-46) and Welch (28-26) in non-district action and Wesleyan Christian (52-16) in last Friday’s district battle in Bartlesville.
The Beggs Golden Demons suffered their first loss in District 2A-7 action last Friday with a 50-34 setback to the Victory Christian Conquerors in Tulsa.
The Demons, who began district play on September 22 with a 38-16 win at Westville, will look to get back in the win column this week when they play host to the Kansas Comets, who enter the Week 6 contest with a spotless 5-0 record and 2-0 in district play. The Comets’ two district wins this season came against Sperry (2614) on September 22 and Morris (410) last Friday.

(27-20), and Fairland (48-7), respectively.
The three county teams that are still searching for their first district wins this season are the Henryetta Golden Knights, Morris Eagles, and Okmulgee Bulldogs.
The Knights, who have suffered district losses to Prague (35-0) and Tahlequah Sequoyah (22-12) in back-to-back contests, will play host to the Warner Eagles, who enter the Week 6 contest with a 2-3 record, 1-1 in district play. Warner picked up its first district win of 2023 last Friday with a 26-12 victory over the Okemah Panthers and began district play September 22 with a 48-13 loss to the Vian Wolverines.
The only other win for Warner in 2023 came in the season opener on September 1 against Savanna, defeating the Bulldogs by a 61-8 margin. The Muskogee County squad completed its non-district schedule this season with back-to-back losses to Sallisaw Central (14-0) and Chouteau-Mazie (30–

The Morris squad will return home in Week 6 and will face another tough district opponent this Friday, hosting the high-powered Victory Christian Conquerors, who enter with a spotless 2-0 district record and an overall season record of 4-1.
The two district wins for the Conquerors have come against the Eagles’ county mates, Okmulgee
(60-13) on September 22 and Beggs (50-34) last Friday. The Tulsa private school has also earned a non-district win over another county school this season, defeating the Henryetta Golden Knights by

The Bulldogs enter Friday’s Week 6 home battle with the Kiefer Trojans in search for not only their first district win this season, but also their first win of 2023, having come up on the losing end of each of their first five contests.
Kiefer enters the Week 6 contest with a spotless
5-0 season record and 2-0 in district play. The Trojans began district action September 22 with a 30–
