Report given on storm damage
Members of the Okmulgee County Consortium sought approval from the board of commissioners to apply for a grant that would assist with their ongoing efforts to address the opioid crisis. OCC Secretary Margaret Black explained what the consortium does for the county and what services the opioid abatement grant funds would help to provide.
“So the Okmulgee County Consortium has a mission to prevent substance use and promote overall wellness throughout the community. Some of the things that we can do,” Black said. “We have a long standing history of working, and helping conduct needs assessments in our community. So we already have a lot of this data available, but we can help you determine what the local issues are and why opioid misuse is happening locally.”
Black explained that this helps to have a data driven approach to the ways we address these issues, and give evidence based strategies for prevention and recovery.
The program would need a municipality to submit a letter of intent before they could receive the funds. “We really just want to advocate for you guys to write this letter of intent and make the application, but we also want you to know that we’re here to support you in this endeavor if y’all choose,” Black asked.
The commissioners were provided handouts that listed the OCC members and their agencies, as well as other local organizations and resources that assist “across the spectrum of treatment and recovery,” similar to the resource guides they’ve made available at a number of locations around the county.
Since being established 15 years ago, the Okmulgee County Consortium has worked to establish long standing relationships with community partners and members, assisting with issues such as substance abuse and treatment, mental health and domestic violence.

• District 1: Joe Beasley for stockpiling materials – The board was set to open and possibly award bids for two or more 2015 or newer day cab trucks. However, no bids were received.
The board did approve a lease/purchase of 2005 dozer for the Rural Beggs Fire Department. The bid was awarded at last week’s meeting. Commissioner Zoellner then asked that the record reflect that Beggs FD has yet to file their required inventory list with the County Clerk’s Office.
Okmulgee EM Director Jeff Moore also gave his weekly report, during which he noted the work that has been done to assess the storm damage from the past weekend.
