Preparations underway for Fireworks Extravaganza

City of Okmulgee Emergency Management Director and Licensed Pyro Technician Ken Anderson, along with his skilled group of assistants, are putting the final touches on another spectacular fireworks display for next Tuesday.

This week, the group was busy putting together the fireworks, and Wednesday, the canisters that have been in storage for a year, were unloaded and transported to Okmulgee’s Municipal Park.

This year, over 1,000 shells will be showcased along with music beginning at 10 a.m. July 4 at the park. The whole family is invited to come early and enjoy an evening of fireworks, music and fun.

Workers were mowing the park Wednesday afternoon in preparation for the crowds expected at the event.

This year, there will be more food vendors in attendance to feed the hungry crowd, beginning at 7 p.m.

Vendors include:

• Hot Dogs and Kettle Corn from the Knights of Columbus

• Raven Rock Pizza • Taco Sonora

• Big Mama’s BBQ

• Antonio’s Fried Fish

• Jack’s Ice Cream

• Frost Bites & Java Delights Also beginning at 7 p.m. will be live music featuring Brent Giddens and his band.

With the hot weather in mind, the Fraternal Order of Police #96 will have two water slides to entertain and cool off the kids.

Anderson reminds everyone there is no shooting of personal fireworks in the park.

“So come out early to eat and enjoy the music and celebrate with your family before the fireworks show begins at 10 p.m.,” Anderson said.

For those unable to attend in person, the show will be streamed live by Neal’s Homestore online @FB.com/Nealshomestore. It will also be broadcast on FM 88.3 for the surrounding area around the Okmulgee Municipal Park.

A big thanks goes out the Okmulgee City Council for their support, along with sponsors CP Kelco, Neals Homestore, Fraternal Order of Police #96 and Domino’s Pizza.

Those wishing to view the fireworks up close are urged to observe no parking areas, along with pedestrians in the area. Remember to stay hydrated during the evening festivities.
