The City of Okmulgee Emergency Management will begin testing tornado sirens in June.
As Oklahoma continues the process of phased reopening and the economy rebounds from weeks-long closure due to COVID-19, a local company is making sure transportation needs are met for the residents of one community in the state.
Citizens wanting to vote by absentee ballot for the 2020 election year should submit their applications to their county Election Board as soon as possible. Voters can request ballots for individual elections or for all elections they are eligible to vote in during the 2020 election year, according to Okmulgee County Election Board Secretary Ashley Carnes. Residents are urged to apply early.
The Okmulgee School board will hold the May meeting this Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in Brock Gym. The meeting will be held in the gym in order to allow for more social distancing by both the board members and those attending. The meeting was originally set for Monday, May 18, but was rescheduled. An agenda has not yet been released.
Members of the Henryetta Police Department and the Okmulgee County Swift Water Rescue team worked together to rescue a 17-year-old from Coal Creek in Henryetta. The boy, who was described as a non-verbal autistic youth, had been reported missing from a residence on West Broadway. The report came in around 11 p.m. on Monday night and led to a nearly two hour long search during which officers drove through the area with searchlights attempting to locate the missing individual.
