Wren Hawthorne, Superintendent

“We’re thrilled to announce the launch of The Academy of Okmulgee (TAOO), a brand-new school designed to meet the needs of families in our community,” Superintendent Wren Hawthorne announced this week. “As a free public school, TAOO is committed to providing high-quality education focused on academic excellence, personal growth, and community involvement. We believe every child deserves access to exceptional educational opportunities, and we are excited to bring that vision to Okmulgee.”

The Academy of Okmulgee will open its doors starting with Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade on Aug. 8.

Each subsequent year, TAOO will add one additional grade until the school offer a complete Pre-K through 12th-grade program.

There are still available spots open in some of the grades for families who are interested in enrolling, according to Hawthorne.

“We invite families to visit our website at http://www.theacademyofokmulgee.org for more information on enrollment and our programs,” he said.

Hawthorne also announce that The Academy of Okmulgee for this year will be offering free school supplies to all of their students.

“We know how challenging it can be to gather everything needed for a new school year, and we want to make sure every child walks through our doors ready to learn without worrying about costs,” Hawthorne stated.

The Academy also offers amazing opportunities through their partnerships with local technology centers and colleges, like Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology (OSUIT). Your child can earn a free associate degree or industry certification while still in high school.

This means they will gain important skills that could jump-start their careers right when they graduate. Plus, every student will create a personalized life plan tailored just for them. This plan will guide them through college, future jobs, and life’s adventures.

“Together, we can help our students discover their passions and prepare for a bright future,” Hawthorne said. “The journey ahead promises to be bright, and we are eager to embark on this new chapter at The Academy of Okmulgee. Together, we will nurture the talents of our children and develop the leaders of tomorrow. We look forward to welcoming everyone to our Spartan family!”

The Academy of Okmulgee will serve healthy meals every school day to all students for the 2024-2025 school year.
Free and Reduced-price meals are offered to all students who qualify for the program. Free and Reduced applications are available to parents at the front office at The Academy of Okmulgee or by calling 918-752-1200.
