Mrs. Wilma Walston, after 88 seasons of life, transitioned to Eternal Life on Monday morning, November 4, 2019, from Midwest City.
The late Reverend John Henry and Essie Mae (Ewing) Halliburton were blessed with a beautiful baby girl on November 17, 1930, in Clearview. They named her Wilma Arvella.
Wilma attended Rosenwald School near Henryetta, and spent the majority of her life in Okmulgee.
Wilma met Alfred Walston, and they were married in 1951.
She worked as a nurse aid for many years at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital and also some of the local nursing homes. She also worked for Ramsey’s Department Store in downtown Okmulgee during her lifetime.
She was a longtime, faithful member of the Shorter Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Walston, Sr.; her parents; her son, Alfred Leonard Walston; her step-son, Ronnie Glazer; and a great-grandchild.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, LaTonya Walston, Tulsa; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her sisters, Priscilla M. Hill, Richmond, Calif., Edith (Clifford) Marshall, Muskogee, and Merdis Word, Kansas City, Kansas; along with other nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.
Her sacred farewell will be shared on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at 11 a.m. in the Shorter Chapel AME Church. Pastor Freeman Culver will officiate. Burial will follow in the Clearview Cemetery.
