Charles E. Story
Charles E. Story, 88, entered life with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, in Okmulgee. He was born on September 27, 1931, in Quinton, to James H. and Julia (Moore) Story. Charles attended Lenna Grade School and Stidham High School. On March 23, 1951, Charles married the love of his life, Betty Dawson in Eufaula. Together, they raised three sons. Aside from sharing God’s word with anyone he came in contact with, Charles enjoyed fishing, woodworking, piddling in his shop, and spending time with family. Charles worked at Rogers Galvanizing Company in Tulsa, for thirty-three years, retiring in 1987.
After being called to ministry in 1958, Charles spent 40 years as a bi-vocational pastor at six churches, bringing numerous souls to the Lord. He spent multiple years filling pulpits on the weekend for pastors on vacation and also volunteered at the Baptist Village in Okmulgee. Charles was a founding member of Twin Hills Baptist Church. His love for the Lord shown in everything he did.
Survivors include: his wife of 69 years, Betty Story of Okmulgee; their sons, Larry Story and wife Trish of Edna, Gary Story and wife Cheryl of Beggs, and Donny Story and wife Cheryl of Fayetteville, Ark.; his grandchildren Lisa Varner and husband Pokey of Bristow; Dana Atwell and husband Josh of Okmulgee; Jeremy Story and wife Jennifer of Fayetteville; Kyle Story and wife Laura of Fayetteville; Brandon Story and wife Kristin of Beggs; and Clark Story of Okmulgee. Charles is also survived by his great grandchildren, Sophie and Sadie Varner, Jobe and Brody Atwell, Hannah and Hayley Story, Josiah Story, and Mattie and Blake Story; as well as many nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings Archie Dean Story, Jack Story, Edna Faye Morgan, Junior Story, and Mose Story.
Friends may visit the funeral home on Friday from 3-8 p.m. Services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, August 1, 2020,
Services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, August 1, 2020, at the Twin Hills Gymnasium with Reverend Tim Turner officiating, assisted by Reverends Dick Ford and Charles Wigington. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Brandon Story, Clark Story, Jeremy Story, Kyle Story, Pokey Varner and Josh Atwell. Honorary casketbearers will be Billy Paul Anderson, Danny Cox, Butch Hardesty, Terry Jones, Rass Sadler and Bob Pinkston, Sr.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted in memory of Charles Story to Twin Hills Baptist Church Falls Creek Scholarship Fund (20200 Hwy. 16, Okmulgee, OK 74447).
