Driver is arrested following crash near Morris
An Okmulgee woman was killed in an accident Tuesday evening near Morris.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol report states the collision occured about 4:47 on Highway 52, 1/2 mile south of Herrick Road, which is 6 miles north of Morris.
Darla Maxwell, 46, was a passenger in a 2014 Chevy truck driven by Matthew Nix, 31 of Morris.
According to the OHP, the truck was northbound on Highway 52, when it left the roadway to the right and collided with a guardrail.
Maxwell was pronounced dead at the Muscogee Creek Nation Hospital in Okmulgee by Medical Examiner Allen Garoutte.
Nix was transported by OHP with complaints of neck, external trunk and wrist injuries.
The OHP report lists “DUI/Drugs” as the condition of the driver and the cause of the collision as DUI.
At the time of the crash, the weather was clear and the roadway was drive. Whether or not the occupants of the vehicle was wearing seatbelts is under investigation.
Nix was arrested and is being held in the Okmulgee County Jail on complaints of First Degree Manslaughter with a Vehicle (Felony), Operating Vehicle While Under the Influence of Drugs, and Failure to Stay in Single Lane of Traffic.
Trooper Jared Sharp of Troop V Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit investigated the accident. He was assisted by Troopers Brad Giulioli and Trooper Brian Warren of Troop B Okmulgee County Detachment as well as Trooper Colt Duncan and Trooper Whit Cochran of Troop B Tulsa County Detachment.
