Oliver Lee Reed

August 23, 1943-March 31, 2018

Oliver Lee Reed was born August  23, 1943, in Salem, Ill. to Sam and Etta Pearl (Rideout) Reed. He passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018, at Hillcrest Hospital.

 Oliver was 74. He grew up in the Twin Hills area and went to school at Twin Hills and transitioned to Preston in the ninth grade. He married Helen Wooldridge in Orange County, Calif. in 1965. 

Oliver  worked in many different fields over his lifetime. He enjoyed working in the construction field most of all.  He loved fishing in ponds and the Illinois River.

 He also enjoyed  playing cards and dominoes.  Oliver was said to be  a well traveled man.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers,  Jim Bob Reed, Kenneth Leon Reed, John Wayne Reed, Terry Joe Reed, and Vallis Wayde Reed; and a son-in-law, Steven Horne.

Avery Moore

 

June 17, 1999-April 2, 2018

Avery Moore, a lifetime resident of Henryetta passed away Monday, April 2, 2018, in Henryetta at the age of 18. He was born June 17, 1999, in Okmulgee to Lindsey Moore and Michael Thompson.

Avery was a senior at Henryetta High School where he served as the 2018 Homecoming King, was on the National Honor Society and the Henryetta High School Student Council. He also worked at Walmart in Okmulgee in the garden center.

Avery was an extremely talented athlete.  His sweet smile turned into an intense and focused opponent on the football field. Avery played running back and safety for the Henryetta Knights. He was a very elusive runner that created problems for all his opponents. 

He rushed for over 2,300 yards, had over 400 yards receiving and scored over 20 touchdowns during his high school career. Avery was a leader on the field that many players admired.

Barbara Ann (Woody) Peeler

 

July 17, 1931-April 4, 2018

 Barbara Ann (Woody) Peeler, 86, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, in Okmulgee.  She was born Friday, July 17, 1931, in Hugo to the late Elmer and Ethel (Reed) Woody. She graduated from Hugo in 1949. Barbara attended Draughons Business College in Tulsa, where she met Robert Peeler from Okmulgee. She worked for National Associated Petroleum Co. for a year then married Robert on November 10, 1951, in Hugo. They moved to Wichita Falls, Texas where Robert was stationed in the Air Force. They then moved back to Okmulgee in 1955, with their little son Robert, Jr. Their son Rick was born in 1956.

Barbara was an Avon representative for eight years, which she enjoyed, because she became acquainted with so many Okmulgee people. Then she went to work for the Okmulgee Public School System until 1978. Barbara was a "Pink Lady" volunteer at the Okmulgee Memorial Hospital for 35 years.

Joanne McKinney

 

March 31, 2018

Joanne McKinney, 89, died peacefully in her home on March 31, 2018, surrounded by her family and devoted caretakers, Jessica and Robyn. Born in Okemah to Jim and Floris Hudson, Joanne was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, K. R. McKinney and her dear sister, Roberta.

Joanne leaves her son Jim; daughter Joan and her husband Ron; grandchildren, Denise and Chris; and great-grandchildren, Georgia, Jack, Dylan, Andrew​ and Kayden.

No services will be held. Joanne was an ardent animal rights supporter and if desired, contributions may be made to any animal support charity of choice

Arrangements and cremation services have been entrusted to the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

Carolyn Ann Brown-Wilson

 

October 19, 1952-March 29, 2018

Carolyn, 65, transitioned peacefully on March 29, 2018. Carolyn was born October 19, 1952, in Okmulgee the daughter of Earl and Mable Brown.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Monique Grady (Kaslon Grady); her grandson, Derrick Bush; two sisters, Delores Mitchell and Anita Bagby; and her two brothers, Edward Brown and David Brown.  She also leaves behind numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  

A memorial service has been planned for Carolyn on Friday, April 6, 2018, at 11 a.m. The family invites all to celebrate the life of Carolyn Ann Brown-Wilson at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1500 North Miami Ave, Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Arrangements were under the direction of Biglow Funeral Home.

Brian Adam Williams

 

October 7, 1982-March 24, 2018

 Brian Adam Williams, 35, of Tulsa, died on Saturday, March 24, 2018, in Tulsa. Brian was born October 7, 1982, in Tulsa to Carl D. Williams and the late Karen R. (Linquist) Evans.  

He worked in landscaping and was a Disc Jockey.

Brian was preceded in death by his mother; maternal grandfather, Robert “Bob” Linquist; and paternal grandparents, Margie and Clarence Williams.

Survivors include his father, Carl Williams, of Tulsa; grandmother, Elizabeth Linquist of Okmulgee; daughters, Braylyn, Rayne and Autumn; and a brother, Paul Sears.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at the Okmulgee Cemetery with Reverend Roland Youngberg officiating.

Arrangements and cremation services have been entrusted to the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

Jimmie Ray Stephenson

 

March 19, 1943-April 2, 2018

Jimmie Ray Stephenson, a longtime resident of Henryetta, passed from this life on April 2, 2018, in Tulsa, at the age of 75.  Jimmie was born on March 19, 1943, in Okmulgee to WIlburn Stephenson and Mary Ray Hinchey Stephenson. He grew up in the Schulter and Wilson communities and graduated from Schulter High School.  He later attended Okmulgee Tech in Okmulgee where he earned a degree in commercial art/advertising.

Jimmie married the love of his life, Letha Brison in Schulter.  They remained happily married for 57 years until his death. From that marriage Jimmie and Letha were blessed with two remarkable boys, Terry and Mark.

Roberta Mae Dudley

 

October 10, 1938-March 30, 2018

On March 30, 2018, Roberta passed peacefully at home. She was originally from Okmulgee and was a graduate from Draughon School of Business. She spent over 30 years as a bookkeeper in the automobile industry. She taught Sunday School for many years and enjoyed singing in the choir. She was UMW president for 3 years in Bethel.

She is survived by her husband Robert Dudley. They were married in 1959. They had a son Greg Dudley of Oklahoma City and a daughter Michaelle Davis of Joplin, Mo. She loved her many grandchildren: Hannah, Caleb and Greg Dudley Jr, and Ryan Poff and Rebecca Davis and also her three great grandchildren, Aiden, Terrence and Tanner.

Roberta has one surviving sister, Evedna Sprouse of Okmulgee. She was preceded in death by her father and mother – Ralph and Winifred McVay; and her sister JoRena Ross, all of Okmulgee.

Judy Ann (Janzen) Alexander

 

October 24, 1938-March 29, 2018

Judith Ann (Janzen) Alexander passed away peacefully following a brief illness on Thursday, March 29, 2018, at St John Hospital surrounded by her loving husband, children and brother.  She was born on October 24, 1938, in Ponca City to the late Jacob H and Alice (Goble) Janzen.  Judy grew up in Tulsa and graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1956.  She went on to attend the University of Oklahoma and was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority.  She graduated in 1960 with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing. While at OU, Judy met the love of her life and best friend, Tom Alexander, and went on to marry him on August 12, 1961. They had 56 adventurous and fun filled years together which included a year in Phoenix, Ariz, three in New Orleans, La. and two at Ft Stewart, Ga. before they settled in Okmulgee in 1969.

Edith Mae (Reynolds) Vance

 

August 5, 1926-March 26, 2018

 Edith Mae (Reynolds) Vance died at her daughter Susie's home in Lafayette, La. on March 26, 2018, at age 91. The daughter of Jake and Leota Reynolds, Mama was born on their farm east of Morris on August 5, 1926, the first of six children. She grew up in Morris and graduated from Morris High School, class of 1944. She met Howard Vance there in elementary school. They were married on June 15, 1947. They spent most of their married life in Lafayette where mama was very active in the First Christian Church of Lafayette, Church Women United, and Mary Kay. A few years after daddy died in 1984, Mama returned to Morris where she spent the remainder of her life.
