Martha Miller 

 

October 6, 1295-January13, 2018

Miller, Martha Patricia "Pat" Burgess passed away January 13, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Pat was born October 6, 1925, in the family home in Claremore to William Earl and Martha Pasco Hartley Burgess. Patty B's father worked for the Lock Joint Pipe Company. His job took them all over the east coast. She started school in Westbrook, Maine and graduated from Central High School in Detroit, Mich. fourteen schools later.

She worked as a World War II drill press operator with her mother the summer after graduating from high school. In September, she enrolled in Oklahoma A&M College (now OSU) studying Home Economics with an emphasis on dietetics. She pledged Kappa Delta Sorority and made many wonderful lifelong friends and was honored as a Fifty Year Member. After graduation from Oklahoma A&M College, she completed a dietetic internship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Mich.

Harrell Presser

 

July 30, 1928-January 15, 2018

Harrell Presser, age 89, passed away January 15, 2018. Harrell was born July 30, 1928, in Okmulgee to Edward and Vivian (Burt) Presser. He was preceded in death by Betty Jean (Lankford) Presser, his wife of 62 years, his parents and all eleven of his siblings. This is why he recently referred to himself as "The Last of the Mohicans" and why he is truly admired by his sons for his incredible resiliency and stubborn independence.

 Presser is survived by his son Gary and wife Shashi; son Wayne and his wife Marianne; all of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandchildren Matt Presser and his wife Erica, Mica Blacklock and her husband Brian, as well as numerous great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Elaine Marie Martin

 

October 18, 1934 - January 9, 2018

A memorial service for Elaine Marie Martin will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018, at 2 p.m. in the First Christian Church of Okmulgee with Rev. Charlie Green officiating.

Elaine Marie Martin was born October 18, 1934. in Rosendale, Mo. to Harry H. and Vetra O. Hewitt. She passed away January 9, 2018, in Okmulgee,  at the age of 83.

Elaine worked as Religious Education Director at The First Christian Church in Okmulgee.  She and Ronald Martin were married on April 26, 1958, and that blessed union lasted 59 years. She worked first for the Scottish Rite Temple in Tulsa, then the Scottish Rite Temple in McAlester for about 20 years.  She then worked for Carroll County Farm Bureau in Illinois as Office Manager where she retired February 1997. She then moved back to Okmulgee,  to help Ronald take care of his mother.

Sam Walton Cummins

Sam Walton Cummins was born on Friday, March 5, 1945, in Canyon, Texas. He died in Beggs on Monday, January 8, 2018. He was 74 years old. Sam was born to Aaron and Pauline (Spencer) Cummins. He proudly served in the United State Army from  1967 until 1969. He married Donna (Eldredge) Cummins in 1978. They moved to Beggs in 1987. Sam loved going camping and fishing with Donna. He worked for Beggs Public Schools for twenty years. Sam was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church.

Kathy R. Smith, a resident of Dustin, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018, in Dustin at the age of 69.  She was born February 22, 1948, in Checotah, to Dimple Glover & Reba Violet (Burns) Glover.

Kathy was a graduate of Hanna High School Class of 1966 and later worked for Walmart in Okmulgee for nineteen years. Kathy loved nature and the outdoors and tending to her plants and flowers.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dimple & Reba Glover; and one brother, Billy George Glover.

Anna D. Mangrum

Anna D. "Pat" Mangrum, a longtime resident of Okmulgee County, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018, in Okmulgee. Anna was born on March 16, 1922, in Pumpkin Center, to William Lewis and Allie Maude (Jackson) Patrick. 

Anna attended Twin Hills Schools and, after graduating from high school, she married Brownie Mangrum in December 1940. Anna was a homemaker and worked at OHSE Meatpacking as a general laborer during her working years. Anna enjoyed working in the garden and her yard. 

Anna is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers and three sisters.

Zandra Kaye Longnecker

April 24, 1998 - January 4, 2017

Zandra Kaye Longnecker passed away surrounded by her family Thursday, January 4, 2017. She was 19 years old. Zandra was born to Jack Longnecker and Bobbi (Dean) Longnecker in Okmulgee, on Friday, April 24, 1998.

Zandra loved Jesus and going to church. She was a pure spirit. She was the Sunday school teacher for the younger children at her church. Zandra enjoyed cooking, helping others, and taking care of people. She started attending OSUIT and enrolled in the orthotics and prosthetics program. Zandra ended her first semester of college with a 4.0. She would always say "Let's go shopping at Walm art."

Obituary - Charles Wayne Smith

Charles Wayne Smith

October 16, 1944 - January 4, 2018

Charles Wayne Smith, 73 year old Okmulgee resident, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.  He was born October 16, 1944, in Hamilton, Al. to the late Dennis and Della (Lawler) Smith. He married Linda Canada on July 2, 1978. He taught science in Alabama and then in Okmulgee before becoming a computer programmer at Community Care.  Charles was a member of the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed turning pens and tying flies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dent and Deller Smith; and siblings, Bernice “Bunk” Courington, Mildred “Smooge” Anglin, Dennis Gilbert “Jr.” Smith, and R.J. Smith.  He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Linda, of the home; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Obituary- Bernadine Jenkins

Bernadine Jenkins

December 26, 1940 - January 6, 2018

Bernadine Johnson Jenkins, the beloved daughter of Ary and Earline Johnson was born on December 26, 1940, in Olympia, near Morris. She was the first of six children born from this loving union.

Bernadine, also known as “Bonnie,” was raised in Osage Avenue Christian Church and accepted the Lord as her personal Savior as a young girl. She was a faithful servant. While growing up in her home church she served as the church assistant treasurer and secretary.

Bonnie obtained her education in Okmulgee, where she attended Attucks, Banneker and the Historic Dunbar High School, graduating class of 1960. She obtained her Culinary Arts degree from Okmulgee Tech. Her degree and love of cooking gave her an enjoyable career as a cook with Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, where she retired.
