Erma Jean Cowan

 

January 23, 1948-March 6, 2018

Erma Jean Cowan, retired Dietician and Nutritionist, died Tuesday, March 6, in her home.  She was 72.

She was born January 23, 1948, in Wagoner County.  The family moved to Okmulgee, where she graduated with honors from Dunbar High School in 1963.  She received a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University.

Erma leaves in God’s care, loved ones in her immediate family, and numerous relatives and friends.  She is survived by her devoted husband, Joe Grayson, Okmulgee; two step-daughters, Marsha Grayson, Dallas, Texas; and Cathy Freeman, Denver, Colo.; three sisters, Mary Lois Wiley, Stillwater; Mattie L. Morton, Okmulgee; and Florene (Herman) Hunter, Okmulgee; brother, Frank Padillow, Tulsa; along with numerous nieces and nephews, who she cared for deeply.

Linda Kaye Roe

 

January 31, 1959-March 6, 2018

 Linda Kaye Roe, an earthly angel, received her heavenly wings on the evening of March 6, 2018, at the age of 59. She passed away peacefully with her beloved husband, Charley Roe, by her side. She was born to William and Aline Dickinson on January 31, 1959, in Amarillo, Texas. She lived in several states, as her father was transferred frequently with the Oil & Gas Industry. Her homes were in Kansas, Louisiana, Wyoming, Odessa, Texas, Bartlesville and Shidler. Linda graduated from OSU in 1981, earning a degree in Accounting, while also obtaining her CPA and CFE.

Linda met Charley Roe in Shidler. Charley was the love of her life, her soul mate. They were married October 25, 1996.

Billie Marie Soontay

January 4, 1928-March 3, 2018

 Billie Marie Soontay passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018, in Dallas, Texas. She was born to the late Anderson and Carrie (Briton) Berryhill on January 4, 1928, in Okmulgee.  Billie was 90 years old. 

Billie loved cooking and bead work. She enjoyed listening and singing Creek songs. Billie was very active in church. Her late husband Richard was their pastor. Billie was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard Soontay, sons Emon Church Wallace, and Kenneth Wallace and eight siblings.

Christopher Timothy John Horn

 

December 3, 1982-February 26, 2018

Christopher Timothy John Horn was born on December 3, 1982, in Ventura, Calif.  He was the son of a Carol Rae Horn.  Christopher passed away on February 26, 2018, in Creek County.  He is one of four children to Carol Horn, and one of three children to his father Dave Dunham.  

Christopher was a jack-of-all-trades and truly a man with the world’s greatest smile and laugh.  He could do anything, and by that, I mean anything.  Christopher graduated with his Associates Degree in occupational sciences gunsmithing from Colorado School of Trades in Lakewood, Colo. on June 14, 2017.  

Christopher is preceded in death by his sister, Angela Rhianna Gerace; his nanny, Nola Snyder; and granny, Melva Mae Fitzgerald

James Owen Taylor, a resident of Henryetta, died on March 3, 2018, in Oklahoma City at the age of 85. Taylor was born June 17, 1932, in Haskell to James and Emma Love (Maddox) Taylor. Services for Taylor will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2018, at the First Baptist Church with Chuck Schilling officiating. Interment will follow at the Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home.

Sharon ‘Sherry’ Lee Comer

June 29, 1944- February 26, 2018

Sharon 'Sherry' Lee Comer, a long-time resident of the Okmulgee area, passed away Monday, February 26, 2018, at Highland Park Manor  at the age of 73.  Born on June 28, 1944,  to Leo and Mildred (Beets) Smith.  Sherry grew up on her family’s farm near Okmulgee.  

After high school, Sherry attended NSU where she earned a degree in education.  Sherry taught elementary school at Mounds for several years.  A loving mother, Sherry enjoyed raising her children, Gene and Jo Ann, whom she shared with her former spouse, Joe Comer.  Later in life, she enjoyed spending time with her mother.  They often crocheted and worked puzzles together, as well as attended garage sales.  Sherry enjoyed collecting items with clever and sassy slogans; they reflected her sharp wit and animated personality perfectly.  Sherry’s bright smile and loving heart will be missed.

Lula Mae Wilson, 91, died February 24, 2018, in Okmulgee. She was born to Robert Coleman, Sr. and Sammie Lee Rhodes in Okmulgee on August 5, 1926. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church-Central, with her Pastor, Reverend P. W. Jackson, Sr., presiding. Burial will follow in the Sharp Cemetery, southwest of the city.

Visitation will be at the Biglow Funeral Home on Friday from 1-6 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc.

A funeral service was held honoring and remembering the life of Helen Marie (Ward) Harvey on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at 2 p.m at Schaudt’s Okmulgee Funeral Service. She died Friday, February 23, 2018. She was 85.

Hanna Jean Bahling was born Monday, May 24, 2015, in Tulsa to James Hadley and Hillary Diane (Cline) Bahling. She passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at her home in Mounds.  Hanna never met a stranger and could bring a smile to anyone’s face.    

Hanna was preceded in death by her maternal great grandparents, L.C. Rice, Bill Cline, Sr. and Peggy Cline; paternal great grandparents, Gerald and Barbara Bahling and M.E. and Waneeka Stout; and her brothers, James Huck Bahling and Case Wyatt Bahling.

Rosie Lee Berryhill

Rosie Lee Berryhill, 71, of Okmulgee was born July 10, 1946, in Okmulgee to the late Edmond and Birtha Lee (Chalakee) Rabbit. Rosie peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018, with her family by her side. 

Rosie grew up in the Dewar (Morris) area where she attended school.  She married the love of her life Leonard Berryhill. Rosie's legacy of love and devotion for her family will live on for generations.

Rosie was known as "The Queen" at the Creek Nation Food Distribution where she worked for over thirty years. She loved playing bingo with her sisters and spending time with her family. Her pride and joy were her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Rosie was a kind hearted and caring spirit who did so much for others. She loved to laugh and was always smiling. Rosie was a faithful member of Tallahassee Indian Methodist Church.
