Lonnie Wade Smelser

February 14, 1927-July 3, 2018

Lonnie Wade Smelser died on July 3, 2018, at the age of 91. He was born on February 14, 1927, in Magnolia, Ark. to the late Daniel and Rosa (Thurman) Smelser. In 1947, Lonnie married Norma Kathleen Grissom of Morris. They moved to San Jose, Calif. in 1953 where he worked as a building contractor. In 1993, they moved to Morris.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Norma Smelser; two brothers, Edward and Norman Smelser; two sisters, Myrtle Elledge and Marilyn Alexander; and his brother-in-law, Rev. C.L.Grissom.

Lonnie is survived by his daughter, Lana A. Jacobs and husband Melvin of Fort Smith, Ark.; four brothers, Daniel, James, Charles, and John Smelser; two sisters, Rebecca Rauch and Frances Schutt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert Stephen 'Steve' Langdon

December 28, 1952-July 9, 2018

On July 9, 2018,  after a two year battle with cancer, Robert Stephen (Steve) Langdon died peacefully at his Stillwater home with his family at his side. He was 65 years old. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Lost Creek United Methodist Church in Stillwater. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stillwater. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Tracy Johnson

July 31, 1959-July 6, 2018

Tracy Allen Johnson came into this world on July 31, 1959, born to William and Freida Johnson in Ponca City. He was one of seven children including his five amazing sisters and one brother. Tracy met and married his wife and love of his life, Vickie. They raised three beautiful sons together, and just shared their 40th wedding anniversary.

Tracy adored his family and loved to set up scavenger hunts for his grandchildren. He loved history, old cars, new recipes, and couldn’t resist a good estate sale. He was a dreamer. He made his famous Baked Beans and Chex mix for special occasions. He told the best dad jokes. He excelled in woodworking, drafting, drawing, blueprinting and so many other things. He loved Christmas. He said his second favorite holiday was his birthday. He always helped others.

Jimmy McGowin

Jimmy McGowin, a resident of Henryetta died Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at his home at the age of 57.  He was born March 2, 1961, to Arvin McGowin, Sr. and Virginia Faye (Stidman) McGowin. He was a graduate of Dewar High School. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arvin and Faye McGowin, also by two sisters, Sally Pollard and Cathy Strong. Funeral services are currently pending with Integrity Funeral Service. 

Garland Dee Lawson

Garland Dee Lawson of Henryetta died Saturday, June 30, in Tulsa at the age of 81. 

Viewing for Garland will be Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Integrity Chapel with Rev. Ryan Wells officiating. Interment will be in Salt Creek Cemetery under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service.

John Alexander Martin

September 3, 1962-June 30, 2018

John Alexander Martin, age 55, passed away in the early morning in his home on June 30, 2018, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 3, 1962, to Clifford and Patricia Martin in San Diego, Calif.  John received a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Management and Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma where he would follow on to serve 30 years in law enforcement, receive two Courage and Valor Medals from the State of Oklahoma, and was bestowed the legacy of Director Emeritus at the Okmulgee County Jail, recently re-named the 'John Alexander Martin Criminal Justice Center.' John earned 'Master Bladesmith' rating from American Bladesmith Society and he enjoyed restoring and riding vintage British motorcycles and playing claw hammer banjo.

Those left to cherish his memory include; his wife, Barbara, of 26 years and their two children Duncan and Aidan Martin.

Orvel Wilkerson Murphy

September 22, 1934-June 28, 2018

Orvel Wilkerson Murphy, 83, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 28, 2018, in Okmulgee. Orvel was born to the late Carl and Alice (Wilson) Murphy on September 26, 1934, in Ada. Orvel had a handful of hobbies, one being carving wood walking sticks out of tree limbs and collecting antiques and collector's items. He bought Roto-Rooter in 1978 and owned it for over 20 years. Orvel enjoyed his work and his customers. He met Phyllis Hastey and they were married on September 29, 1977, in Henryetta. Orvel liked to travel, going on road trips in the car was his favorite because he did not like air planes. He also liked going to the flea market to see what he could find. Orvel was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. 

Orvel is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Alice; brother, Carl Douglas Murphy; sister, Kareen Murphy; and grandson, Justin Cowley.

Rosemary Reed

December 23, 1946-June 26, 2018

A funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Rosemary Reed will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Schaudt’s Funeral Service in Okmulgee. A public viewing will be held on June 29, 2018, from 5-8 p.m. at Schaudt’s Funeral Service in Okmulgee. 

Rosemary Reed, age 71, passed away on June 26, 2018, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa with her loving family by her side. She was born on December 23, 1946, in Okmulgee to Fred and Alice Daniels. Rosemary married the love of her life, Jim Reed on August 24, 1962, in Okmulgee. Before his passing in 2016, they had celebrated over 52 years of marriage together and had two wonderful, loving kids.

Joseph ‘Joe’ McNac

November 23, 1941-June 27, 2018

Joseph ‘Joe’ McNac went to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at 4:22 p.m. in Tulsa. He was 76 years young. Joe was born as a twin to the late Charlie and Bessie (Bird) McNac at Hickory Ground #2 Baptist Church in Salem on Sunday, November 23, 1941. Joe worked at Nelson Factory in Tulsa and then Facilities Maintenance in Okmulgee for over 30 years until he retired. 

Joseph enjoyed listening to Jimmy Swaggart, second Elvis Presley, and helping anyone he came in contact with, where he never met a stranger. He loved his truck and enjoyed entering car shows where he brought home many trophies. Joe was a member of Hickory Ground #2 Baptist Church and also enjoyed attending Tallahassee Church. 

Preceding Joe in death are his parents; brother, Peter NcNac; brother, Paul McNac; his sister, Jennie Lee; wife, Chiquita McNac; and step-son Dennis Jueanu.

Nancy Jean Smith

December 4, 1960-June 26, 2018

Nancy Jean Smith passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, with her husband by her side. She was 57 years old. Nancy was born to the late Rodney and Dorothy Ross in Okmulgee on Sunday, December 4, 1960. 

Nancy met Midge Smith and they dated for five years until they got married on July 18, 1980, in Okmulgee. Nancy enjoyed being in the water, swimming and having fun. She loved riding motorcycles. 

 Her pride and joy was her son Shawn. Nancy is survived by her husband of almost 38 years Midge Smith of the home; son, Shawn Chase Smith of Edinburg, Penn.; brothers, Dale Ross and wife Pam and Brian Ross both of Tulsa.

Goldina B. Johnson, 94, nurse assistant, transitioned in her home peacefully Friday, June 22, 2018. The funeral will be held at Cleaves Memorial CME Church, 806 E. Smith St, at 11 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2018, with interment following in Okmulgee Cemetery. Vistation will be held at House of Winn Thursday, June 28, 2018, from 1-6 p.m.
