Obituary - Anna D. Mangrum

Anna D. Mangrum

March 16, 1922 - January 8, 2018

Anna D. "Pat" Mangrum, a longtime resident of Okmulgee County, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018, in Okmulgee. Anna was born on March 16, 1922, in Pumpkin Center, to William Lewis and Allie Maude (Jackson) Patrick. 

Anna attended Twin Hills Schools and, after graduating from high school, she married Brownie Mangrum in December 1940. Anna was a homemaker and worked at OHSE Meatpacking as a general laborer during her working years. Anna enjoyed working in the garden and her yard. 

Anna is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers and three sisters.

Obituary - Zandra Kaye Lognecker

Zandra Kaye Longnecker

April 24, 1998 - January 4, 2017

Zandra Kaye Longnecker passed away surrounded by her family Thursday, January 4, 2017. She was 19 years old. Zandra was born to Jack Longnecker and Bobbi (Dean) Longnecker in Okmulgee, on Friday, April 24, 1998.

Zandra loved Jesus and going to church. She was a pure spirit. She was the Sunday school teacher for the younger children at her church. Zandra enjoyed cooking, helping others, and taking care of people. She started attending OSUIT and enrolled in the orthotics and prosthetics program. Zandra ended her first semester of college with a 4.0. She would always say "Let's go shopping at Walm art."

Obituary - Charles Wayne Smith

Charles Wayne Smith

October 16, 1944 - January 4, 2018

Charles Wayne Smith, 73 year old Okmulgee resident, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.  He was born October 16, 1944, in Hamilton, Al. to the late Dennis and Della (Lawler) Smith. He married Linda Canada on July 2, 1978. He taught science in Alabama and then in Okmulgee before becoming a computer programmer at Community Care.  Charles was a member of the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed turning pens and tying flies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dent and Deller Smith; and siblings, Bernice “Bunk” Courington, Mildred “Smooge” Anglin, Dennis Gilbert “Jr.” Smith, and R.J. Smith.  He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Linda, of the home; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Obituary- Bernadine Jenkins

Bernadine Jenkins

December 26, 1940 - January 6, 2018

Bernadine Johnson Jenkins, the beloved daughter of Ary and Earline Johnson was born on December 26, 1940, in Olympia, near Morris. She was the first of six children born from this loving union.

Bernadine, also known as “Bonnie,” was raised in Osage Avenue Christian Church and accepted the Lord as her personal Savior as a young girl. She was a faithful servant. While growing up in her home church she served as the church assistant treasurer and secretary.

Bonnie obtained her education in Okmulgee, where she attended Attucks, Banneker and the Historic Dunbar High School, graduating class of 1960. She obtained her Culinary Arts degree from Okmulgee Tech. Her degree and love of cooking gave her an enjoyable career as a cook with Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, where she retired.

Wava Gay Dahl

March 3, 1941 - January 7, 2018

Wava Gay Dahl passed from this life to her new life on January 7, 2018, at the Clarehouse in Tulsa.  She was born in Albany, Neb. March 3, 1941, to Charles Edward Boyd and Bonnie Lee Miller.

She loved being outside whether it was planting flowers or mowing the yard. She also loved cooking for anyone who came to visit. She also was a selfless caregiver taking care of over 80 foster children. She truly had a house of love.

She is preceded in life by her parents, Charles and Bonnie Boyd; her husband of thirty years, Sigfred Thomas Dahl; one son Rocky Gene Hinds; one daughter-in-law Candy Sue Hinds (Hunter); and one granddaughter Jessica Nicole Hinds. She is also preceded by her sisters Hazel Joy Davis, Merrily Louise Maddox, and Carol Glee Cope.

Donald Ray Baker passed away on January 1, 2018, at the age of 79, at his home in Okmulgee,  with his loving family by his side. Donald was born on May 25, 1938, in Evansville, Ind. to the parents of Elizabeth (Yeager) and Ernist Baker. Donald married the love of his life Dianne (Talley) Baker on June 1, 1972, and spent 45 years of marriage together since. The two of them met doing what they love to do which was cook in the culinary program at Okmulgee Tech.

Jim Ray Churchill

 

February 18, 1941 - December 30, 2017

A longtime resident, Jim Ray Churchill, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 30, 2017. Jim was born February 18, 1941, to the late Mallie and Clinton Churchill in Okmulgee.

Jim attended Okmulgee Public Schools where he gratuated in 1959. He then married the love of his life, Ann Vaughn, on April 23,1960. Soon following their marriage they moved to Seminole, Texas where Jim worked at Pitman Builder Supply.  They lived in Texas for eight  years and also welcomed two daughters, Gayelynn and Jeannean. In 1968, Jim moved him and his family to Sapulpa.  Jim worked at Creek County Lumber.  They lived in Sapulpa for 20 years.  

In 198.8 Jim and Ann bought Ace Hardware and moved back to Okmulgee. He soon became a member of the Elk Lodge. He was a member for 29 years where he served on the House Committee for a number of years.

Arteen Henry

December 31, 2017

Arteen Henry of McAlester, died Sunday, December 31, 2017, at a local nursing home surrounded by her family at the age of 87.

Arteen was born March 24, 1930, to Robert and Fern Alexander in Ashland where she lived and attended school for eleven years. She finished her last year of hgh school in Ada following her marriage to I.D. Henry on July 16, 1947. Two boys were born to them Stephen Henry and Timothy Henry.

The family moved from Ada back to Ashland then to Shamrock, then Drumright and lastly to Okmulgee. Arteen was mostly a homemaker. However, while living in Okmulgee, she worked seven years at the Okmulgee Day Care Center.   Following the death of her husband in 1989, she moved to McAlester.  She enjoyed gardening, reading the Bible and attending Church.

Dr. John Arthur Garis, M.D.

 

January 4, 1931 - December 28, 2017

Dr. John Arthur Garis, M.D., passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017, in Tulsa at 86 years of age.  Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Dr. Jeff Francis officiating.  Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.  

Arrangements have been entrusted to the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
