Avlah Loyce Pierce

Avlah Loyce Pierce, 59, died May 11, 2017, in Tulsa.

Funeral service will be Saturday, May 20, 2017, at 12 noon at St. Matthew Baptist Church in Okmulgee.

Visitation will be Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Tulsa and 4-7 p.m. in Okmulgee. Arrangements are under the direction of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc. - Tulsa Chapel.

 

Helen McCroskey

February 27, 1930 - May 17, 2017

Helen McCroskey, a resident of Henryetta, died May 17, 2017, in McAlester. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, May 22, at the First Baptist Church in Henryetta. Interment will be 2 p.m. at Ft, Gibson National Cemetery under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home.

Jimmy Dale Ledford

July 28, 1948 - May 18, 2017

Jimmy Dale Ledford passed away Thursday morning, May 18, 2017, in Okmulgee at 68 years of age.  He was born July 28, 1948, in Okmulgee to the late Obie and Ruby (Dixon) Ledford. Jim attended Liberty Morris Schools and was a member of the last graduating class.  He received a Master’s Degree in Administration at Northeastern State University and retired as principal at Morris Public Schools in 2004.  Jim had been an active member of the Okmulgee County Farm Bureau, Okmulgee County Cattleman’s Association, OSSAA, FFA, Rural Water Board and the First Baptist Church of Morris.  Jim enjoyed supporting the Morris Eagles going to flea markets, raising cattle and farming.  He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Don Ledford.

Billy Wayne Hart was born to the late Earl and Rebecca (Vosburg) Hart on Thursday, November 7, 1946, in Muskogee. Billy passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at 70 years old. Services for Billy will be held at a later date.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

Paula Sue Mills

September 19, 1936 - May 15, 2017

Paula Sue Mills, 80, longtime Beggs resident, passed away Monday morning May 15, 2017, at her home surrounded by family. She was born September 19, 1936, in Beggs, to the late Frank and Lorena Massey Chambers. She attended Beggs Schools and graduated high school in 1954. She later married Jay Mills on June 24, 1955, in Beggs. Paula worked for the Tulsa City/County Health Department in the Maintenance Department. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, making and selling puppets as well as volunteering as a cook and sponsor at Falls Creek Youth camp in Davis. Paula was a member of the First Baptist Church in Beggs and a member of the Glory Road Singers as well as a longtime member of the Beggs Alumni Committee.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Frank Jr., Richard and J.D. Chambers; and a great grandchild Irissa Swanson.

Audrey Oran Nickle

February 12, 1931 - May 12, 2017

Audrey Oran “Buzzy” Nickle, 86, longtime Okmulgee resident, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.  He was born February 12, 1931, in Granby, Mo. to the late Hershel and Burnice (Cooper) Nickle.  Buzzy served his country in the United States Marine Corps.  He then attended college on the G.I. Bill. He married Aletha June Rutherford on December 16, 1952. Buzzy worked at American Saint Gobin Glass Factory for over 25 years until his retirement. He enjoyed coon hunting, fishing and most of all, being with his grandkids. He was a 32 Degree Mason and member of the Harvest Community Church. Buzzy will be remembered for his sense of humor and as a good man.

He was preceded in death by his father and step mothers, Hershel and Freda Nickle; mother, Burnice Youngblood; sister, Barbara Hutchison; and brothers, Lyle, Willis and Leo Nickle and Paul Henderson.

Geraldine Jane Jones

Geraldine Jane Jones, 74, of Okmulgee, died Saturday, May 6, 2017, at her residence. Geraldine was born in Cherokee,  on May 14, 1942, a daughter of the late Ralph and Vera (Coss) White.  A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Second Baptist Church, 1003 N. Alabama, Okmulgee.  John Leybas will officiate. Myrtle Peters

Myrtle Delois Peters June 12, 1932 - April 26, 2017 Myrtle Delois Peters passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at the age of 84. She was born to the late Ethmer Ed and Ardie (Fry) Peters on Sunday, June 12, 1932, in Hulbert. Myrtle had a love for animals and  enjoyed crocheting  and embroidery work.  Myrtle was the manager for Dairy Queen in Okmulgee for 28 years and she loved her job. Most of all she loved going on Sunday afternoon drives with her mother. She is preceded by her parents, brother Eddie Lee Peters, and nephew Randall Leon Perry. Left to cherish all the wonderful memories of Myrtle are her sisters Hazel McElroy of Morris and Doris Reib of Collinsville; nephews Bruce Wall of Texas, John Peters of California, and Aaron Lee Peters of Okmulgee; niece Diana Dipboye of Claremore; and sister-in-law Gloria D. Peters of Okmulgee.     Friends may visit the funeral home on May 12, 2017, from 1-8 p.m.  Family will be present from 5-7 p.m.

Mary Ann Kane

Mary Ann Kane May 3, 1928 - May 5, 2017 Mary Ann Kane, lifelong resident of Okmulgee passed away on Friday, May 5, 2017, at the age of 89.  She was born to the late Samuel Jefferson Checote and Mary Ellen (Griffey) Checote on Thursday, May 3, 1928, in Okmulgee. Mary lived an adventurous and active life. She retired from Creek Nation after working as a transporter for many years. Her passions included  sewing, canning, cooking, gardening, genealogy, and spending time with her family and friends. Mary served on the Okmulgee County fair board and was an active and dedicated member of the Newtown United Methodist Church, the American Business Women Association, and Oklahoma Extension Homemakers.      Mary is preceded in death by her parents; spouse Gordon (Happ) Kane; and brother Don Kane.

Marcella Diane Cottrell

Marcella Diane Cottrell May 11, 1948 - May 2, 2017 Mrs. Marcella Diane (Tate) Cottrell, after 68 seasons of life went to be with her heavenly Father Jesus Christ  in the early morning of May 2, 2017, in Tulsa. Born in Mexico, Mo. on Tuesday, May 11, 1948, to the late Mr. Corporal Tate, Sr. and Mrs. Ethelda Wallina (Townsell) Tate. Marcella loved her lord Jesus Christ and going to worship Him every Sunday. She spent most of her spare time with her family. Marcella is preceded in death by her parents; son Terry Tate; sister Faye Demery; and brother Norman Tate. Remaining to cherish all the wonderful memories of Marcella are her sons Dion Cottrell of Beggs, Harold Cottrell of Okmulgee; grandchildren Jarek Turner of Ft.

Betty Maloney

Betty Jo Maloney September 2, 1932 - May 8, 2017 Betty Jo Maloney, 84 years old, of Okmulgee, passed away early Monday morning, May 8, 2017, in Tulsa, after battling Alzheimer’s. Betty was born in Webb City, on September 2, 1932, to the late Gladys May (Chambers) McGrew and Calvin Monroe McGrew. She was married to the late Roy Denzell Maloney for over 41 years. In 1950, she graduated from Okmulgee High School and went on to graduate from Draughon Business College in Tulsa,  and also attended OSU Okmulgee. She retired from ONG in service work. Betty and her husband owned and operated Maloney's Furniture in Okmulgee. Also, Betty along with her daughters owned and operated Xanadu Apparel from 1987 to 2002. Betty was very creative and a talented artist. You may have seen her murals on different buildings located in Okmulgee. She did oil and china paintings and also upholstered furniture, sewed, made furniture, and could iron a shirt to the point it could stand alone.
