Charles Dale Miller

April 28, 1929 - October 8, 2017

Charles D. Miller, 88, of Tulsa, died peacefully following a long illness on Sunday, October 8, 2017, in Tulsa. Loving family members were with Mr. Miller when he passed. Mr. Miller was born in Morris, Oklahoma on April 28, 1929, to Charles Thomas Miller and Mildred (Benedum) Miller. He attended schools in Morris and nearby Eram, and spent time during his youth in Okmulgee.

David Wayne Cunningham

 

December 3, 1946 - October 10, 2017

David Wayne Cunningham, 70 passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, in Tulsa surrounded by his family. David was born to the late P.W. and Ozelle (Smith) Cunningham on Tuesday, December 3, 1946, in Henryetta. 

David was a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the United States Army.     He had a passion for his job as a social worker and worked for the Okmulgee Department of Human Services until his retirement. David was amazing at helping so many people in various ways and always giving 110 percent with everything he did for them. His second passion was running, participating in multiple 5K races in Tulsa. David enjoyed biking and going down to the Y.M.C.A. to play racket ball. He has always loved horses. David attended the Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa.

Charles E. "Chuck" Swearengin, Jr., a resident of Henryetta, died Friday, October 6, 2017, in Tulsa at the age of 43.

A memorial service for Chuck will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, in Integrity Chapel with Frank Earnest officiating.

 

Joe Wasko Simpson, Jr.

Joe Wasko Simpson, Jr, a resident of Okmulgee, died Sunday, October 8, 2017, in Tulsa at the age of 76. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, October 13, 2017, at Weogufkee Indian Baptist Church in Hanna. Interment will follow in Hanna Cemetery under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.

Steven Scott Thomas

 

January 11, 1956 - October 5, 2017

Steven Scott Thomas, 61 year old Beggs resident, passed away Thursday, October 5, 201,7 at his home.  He was born January 11, 1956, in Tulsa to Clarence Alan Thomas and Doris Jean (Lauer) Thomas.  He married Janet Sue Shulanberger on July 14, 1975, in Bixby.  Steven owned and operated a construction company.  He was a man of faith and had attended the Cowboy Church.  He was preceded in death by his father, wife and daughter, Jody Thomas.  Survivors include his children, Shelly Thomas Clay and Marvin Thomas; mother, Doris Thomas; brothers, Mike Thomas, Paul Thomas and Marvin Thomas; grandchildren, Josalyn Thomas, Sean Clay, Trey Thomas, Garrett Burch, Wyatt Thomas, and Clara Burch, step-grandchildren, Madison Clay, Nicole Richardson, Mikayla Clay and Kasey Clay.

Friends were able to visit the  funeral home on Monday from 12-8 p.m..

Mary Ellen Boudinot

 

October 7, 1927 - October 7, 2017

Mary Ellen Boudinot, longtime Okmulgee resident, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017, on her 90th birthday at Highland Park Manor.  She was born October 7, 1927, in Okmulgee to the late Steve and Susan Evans.  She married Robert Boudinot in  1952.  Mary retired from the Okmulgee County Court Clerk’s Office. She was a talented pianist. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mike Boudinot; and three brothers, Aubrey, Collin, Noel and Meredith Evans; and two sisters, Dovie Cottrill and Ruby Evans.  Survivors include her husband, Bob Boudinot; a daughter, Susan and husband Jim Koch of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; son, Terry Boudinot and wife Betty of Okmulgee and several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2017, with Reverend Rex McDowell officiating. Friends were able to visit  on Tuesday from 12-8p.m.

Burton L. Mann

 

November 12, 1925 - October 6, 2017

Burton L. Mann, age 91, died Friday, October 6, 2017, in Oklahoma City. He was born November 12, 1925, in Tulsa to W.R. “Bill” and Ruby Mann.  The family moved to Okmulgee in 1934. He graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1943 and from The University of Oklahoma in 1949, with a major in finance. He was a member of PHI KAPPA PSI fraternity. He enlisted in 1943 in the Navy’s flight training program and served until 1946. He later served in the active Naval Air Force Reserve at the Naval Air Station, Dallas, as an intelligence officer, retiring in 1973 as a Lt. Commander.

Elsie Juanita Sullivan

 

January 17, 1928 - October 7, 2017

Elsie Juanita “Nita’ Sullivan, 89 year old Okmulgee resident,  was called home on Saturday, October 7, 2017, by her savior and Lord Jesus Christ.   She was born on January 17, 1928, in Watson, to the late William and Viola (Giesler) Armstrong.  She married James Caswell Sullivan on October 28, 1944, in Yuma, Ariz. The great joy in her life was her family and her home. 

Although Alzheimer's Disease stole many of her memories, she never forgot home. She was a beautiful home maker. Her hobbies included sewing, music, tole painting and many other crafts. She was a wonderful cook. Nita was a florist and co-owned Arlington Florist in Torrance, California with her sister, Eunice.  She and her husband also owned and operated the Alpine Motel in Santa Barbara, Calif.  They moved to Oklahoma in 1981 from Santa Barbara.

Joe Ann Stafford

Joe Ann Stafford, former Morris resident, passed away October 4, 2017, in Fox.  She was born December 26, 1941, in Tulsa, to the late Theodore and Margie (Beach) Scism.  She married Olen Stafford, Jr. who preceded her in death in 1998. Joe enjoyed sewing, ceramics and wood crafts and loved being with her family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Connie Perry and Pat Tucker and two nephews.  She is survived by her sons, Billy Hamilton and wife Shannon of Fox, Jim Scism and wife Nina of Sapulpa and Tim Stafford; sisters-in-law, Joan Ledbetter of Morris, Sharon Kaye Waldrep and husband Reverend Freddie Waldrep of Sand Springs and Barbara Moss and husband Brother Moss of Delaware; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Curtis W. “Smackey” Lee of Okmulgee  died September 25, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Ark.

Funeral service is scheduled Saturday, October 7, 2017, 11 a.m., Mt. Triumph Baptist Church, 15802 Fort Coffee Rd, Spiro. Interment will follow in the Fort Coffee Cemetery. The family has been cared for by House of Winn Funeral Homes.
