EDMOND - The wait for a first-ever state championship in varsity baseball for Beggs High School will extend at least one more year.

The Demons, ranked fifth in Class 3A, saw their dreams of a state championship fall short by two wins last Friday afternoon at Edmond Memorial High School with a 5-2 loss to top-ranked Oktaha in the semifinals of the Class 3A state baseball championships.

The Beggs squad earned a spot in the 3A semifinal round after scoring a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the fourth-ranked Marlow Outlaws last Thursday in the tournament opener.

The narrow victory over Marlow avenged last year's quarterfinal loss to the Outlaws and put the Demons into the semifinals for the first time since 2015, snapping a 3-game losing streak at the state tournament.
