Elsie Juanita Sullivan

January 17, 1928 - October 7, 2017

Elsie Juanita “Nita’ Sullivan, 89 year old Okmulgee resident,  was called home on Saturday, October 7, 2017, by her savior and Lord Jesus Christ.   She was born on January 17, 1928, in Watson, to the late William and Viola (Giesler) Armstrong.  She married James Caswell Sullivan on October 28, 1944, in Yuma, Ariz. The great joy in her life was her family and her home.

Although Alzheimer's Disease stole many of her memories, she never forgot home. She was a beautiful home maker. Her hobbies included sewing, music, tole painting and many other crafts. She was a wonderful cook. Nita was a florist and co-owned Arlington Florist in Torrance, California with her sister, Eunice.  She and her husband also owned and operated the Alpine Motel in Santa Barbara, Calif.  They moved to Oklahoma in 1981 from Santa Barbara.

Her main occupation in life was to be a help mate to her husband. Being a pastor's wife, she made it possible for him to always shine. They were truly a team in whatever they did. They enjoyed traveling when they could, but always seemed to have work and obligations that hindered. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Morris.  She is now free from all pain, confusion and earthly hindrances. She fought a good fight even to the very end. She is now with her Lord and beloved husband Jimmy and daughter Janis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Janis Tores; and her sisters, Lenora Phillips, Florence Gough, Mildred Bryant, Ruth Welk, Marguerite Edwards; brothers, Virgil Armstrong and Robert Armstrong.

Survivors include a daughter, Jeannie Grim and husband John of Okmulgee; a son-in-law, Larry Tores of Carson City, Nev.; grandchildren, Heather vonHartitzsch and husband David of Tulsa and Michael Grim of Miami;  great grandchildren, August, Kylie and Lily vonHartitzsch; sister, Eunice Moore of Nipomo, Calif.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2017, at the First Assembly of God Church in Morris with Reverend Richard Carender officiating. Interment will follow in the Morris Cemetery. Friends may visit the funeral home on Wednesday from 12-8 p.m. and the family will be present to receive guests from 5-7 p.m.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
