April is National Volunteer Month, and OSU Extension is recognizing the many 4-H volunteers who help make the Okmulgee County 4-H program successful. Throughout the year, volunteers dedicate countless hours to supporting youth, families and community programs, helping create meaningful opportunities for young people across the county.

The 4-H program focuses on youth development by helping members build leadership, life skills and confidence through hands-on learning experiences. From leading local clubs and mentoring youth to assisting with events and activities, volunteers play a vital role in ensuring these opportunities are available to all 4-H members.

The Okmulgee County 4-H Parent Volunteer Association (PVA) works alongside OSU Extension 4-H Educator to assist with county events, support educational programs and enhance experiences for local 4-H youth.

Recently, new officers were elected to serve the Parent Volunteer Association for the 2026-28 term. Officers include

• President: Tricia Buttram, Beggs 4-H

• Vice President: Brooklyn Cowan, Dewar 4-H

• Secretary: Lorena Ballard, Preston 4-H

• Treasurer: Lylah Sparks, Morris 4-H These volunteers have stepped into leadership roles to help guide and strengthen the 4-H program in the coming years.

Okmulgee County currently has nearly 300 enrolled 4-H members, and Extension educators say the program’s continued growth reflects the strong support of volunteers and families within the community. Volunteer involvement helps provide youth with opportunities to learn new skills, develop confidence and prepare for future success.

In recognition of National Volunteer Month, OSU Extension extends appreciation to all 4-H volunteers whose dedication continues to make a lasting difference in the lives of local youth.

An upcoming opportunity for volunteers is the 2026 Oklahoma Conference on Volunteerism, scheduled for June 26-27 in Stillwater. The conference brings together volunteers and community leaders from across the state to share ideas, learn new skills and strengthen volunteer programs.

Early registration for the conference is available through April 30 for $45, with regular registration open May 1-31 for $75. Registration is available through ZSuites. More information can be found at extension.okstate. edu/events/ok-volunteerism.
