OHS boys battle through track & field events The Okmulgee Bulldogs boys track and field team competed in a deep field on April 2 at the Checotah meet, finishing 13th overall while collecting key performances across sprinting, relays and field events.
The Bulldogs opened the day with relay competition, where the 4×100 team of Kason Ellis, Yahkeem Hunt, Kameron Smith and Braxton Thomas posted a time of 49.73 seconds. The same group returned later in the 4×200 relay, delivering a strong run of 1:42.23 to stay competitive in sprint relay action.
In individual sprint events, Okmulgee found success in the 200-meter dash where Larry Yahola earned the top finish for the Bulldogs, placing third overall with a time of 23.26 seconds. In the 100-meter dash, Chase Spain posted a time of 12.83, followed closely by Kingston Butler at 12.88 and Nolan Yates at 13.17, showing depth across the sprint group.
The 400-meter dash group continued to compete hard, while the 800 meters produced a strong showing from Bryan Long, who placed seventh with a time of 2:21.60. Long also contributed in distance relay action as part of the 4×800 team alongside Kaleb Berryhill, Issac Brand and Kingston Butler, which finished in 9:59.01.
In hurdles, Kaleb Berryhill competed in both events for Okmulgee, placing 11th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 22.43 and 10th in the 300-meter hurdles at 51.02, adding valuable points in technical events.
Field events provided one of the strongest highlights of the day for the Bulldogs. In the long jump, Keonte Youngblood delivered a standout performance, finishing second overall with a leap of 20 feet, 3 inches. Teammate Keithan Stafford also contributed with a 10th-place finish at 17 feet, 6 inches.
While Okmulgee did not post scoring marks in every field event category, the Bulldogs showed competitiveness in each area entered, continuing to build experience against a strong field of teams.
Overall, the 13th-place finish reflected a young squad gaining valuable meet experience while producing standout moments in both sprint and field events. With continued development in relay exchanges and event depth, Okmulgee showed flashes of potential that will serve them well as the season progresses.

The Lady Bulldogs opened relay action with the 4×100 team of Destiny Montesque, Zykia Orr, Kyndal Smith and Kayonna Proctor, finishing in 54.77 seconds. The same group (with Layonna Proctor in the 4×200 lineup alongside Montesque, Smith and Orr) delivered a stronger showing in the 4×200 relay, posting a time of 1:54.72.
The highlight of the day on the track came in the 200-meter dash, where Kyndal Smith delivered a first-place finish in 27.15 seconds, marking the top performance for Okmulgee at the meet. Teammate Destiny Montesque also competed in the event, finishing 14th in 28.95 seconds.
In the field events, the Lady Bulldogs added key points in both discus and long jump. Kennedy Penn earned a fourth-place finish in the discus with a throw of 90 feet, 6 inches, one of the top field results of the day for Okmulgee.
Montesque also contributed in the long jump, placing fifth with a mark of 15 feet, 4 inches, adding to her strong all-around performance in both track and field events.
While several distance and hurdle events did not feature entries for Okmulgee, the Lady Bulldogs continued to compete hard in every event group entered, showing progress in sprinting depth and field event execution.
The 12th-place finish reflected a developing team continuing to gain experience in a competitive meet environment. With a firstplace individual finish, strong relay efforts and multiple top-five field performances, the Lady Bulldogs left Checotah with both confidence and momentum moving forward in the season.
