Henryetta tennis squads stay red-hot
By Patrick Ford Editor

It was another standout stretch for Henryetta tennis, as the Lady Knights continued their dominant spring run while the Knights turned in a solid showing on their home courts during the Henryetta 4A Tournament.

Competing April 2-3, Henryetta hosted teams from across the region, with both squads delivering strong performances. By the end of the tournament, it was the Lady Knights who stole the spotlight, battling through a competitive field to claim the team championship, while the Knights secured a fourth-place finish.

The Lady Knights’ success was powered by a series of impressive individual performances across both singles and doubles play.

At the top of the lineup, Violet Layman captured the championship in No. 1 singles, continuing her stellar season with consistent, high-level play. Not to be outdone, Connie Dong matched that effort with a title of her own in No. 2 singles, giving Henryetta a sweep of the singles divisions.

The doubles teams added even more firepower to the Lady Knights’ championship run. The duo of Brooke Bailey and Bayleigh Wolfe dominated their bracket to earn the No. 1 doubles title, while Lauren Collett and Aubrey Macaluso contributed a third-place finish in No. 2 doubles. Additional depth came from Makinlee Kelch and Annika Kramer, who placed fifth in the consolation bracket, helping secure crucial team points.

On the boys side, the Knights held their own against tough competition to finish fourth overall. Jeff Webster and Jimmy Daniels each earned thirdplace finishes in their respective No. 1 and No. 2 singles brackets, providing key highlights for the host team.

The home tournament success was only the beginning for the Lady Knights. Just days later, Henryetta traveled to the Seminole Invitational – and once again, the Lady Knights proved they are among the top programs in the area. With an incredible team effort, all 11 Henryetta players who competed brought home medals, culminating in another team championship.

Leading the charge once again were Layman and Dong, who repeated their dominance with championships in No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Their continued success has set the tone for the entire squad and established Henryetta as a force to be reckoned with this season.

In doubles action, Bailey and Wolfe followed up their previous tournament win with a strong runner- up finish in No. 1 doubles, while Collett and Macaluso also secured second place in No. 2 doubles.

Henryetta’s depth was on full display throughout the Seminole tournament. Annika Kramer placed fifth in No. 2 singles, while the teams of Mykah Hott and Maddie Rock (No. 1 doubles) and Winzly Bussey and Makinlee Kelch (No. 2 doubles) each earned fifth-place finishes.

The consistency across the entire lineup has been a key factor in the Lady Knights’ success this season. Whether at the top of the bracket or battling through consolation rounds, every player has contributed valuable points and momentum.

With three tournament championships already under their belt, the Lady Knights are building a season to remember. Their combination of strong singles play, reliable doubles teams, and overall depth has made them one of the most complete squads in the region.

Meanwhile, the Knights continue to show steady improvement and competitiveness, highlighted by their strong individual finishes and top-four team placement on their home courts.

As the season progresses, Henryetta tennis – especially the surging Lady Knights – appears poised for even more success as they carry confidence, momentum, and a growing list of accolades into the heart of their schedule.
