Election Board seeking Election Day poll workers

The Okmulgee County Election Board announced today that it is accepting applications for Precinct Officials (poll workers) through May 8. Residents interested in serving their community on Election Day are encouraged to apply.

Positions are available for Inspector, Judge, Clerk, Auxiliary, Substitute and Provisional Voting Officer. According to Election Board Secretary Ashley Carnes, all applicants must be willing to work long hours on Election Day and must attend a required training session.

“This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in the election system,” Carnes said. “While the hours can be long, poll workers are only needed for a few days each year.”

Precinct Officials are especially needed in the Henryetta, Dewar and Schulter areas. All poll workers must serve in the county where they are registered. Applications are available at the Okmulgee County Election Board office.

Poll workers are compensated for their time, and some may receive mileage reimbursement for travel. Compensation is determined according to state statutes.

To qualify, applicants must be registered voters in Okmulgee County. Precinct Officials may not be related to or employed by a candidate appearing on the ballot.

In preparation for upcoming elections, the Okmulgee County Election Board will conduct mandatory training sessions for Precinct Officials on Wednesday, May 13, and Thursday, May 14. Each session will begin at 9 a.m. at Green Country Technology Center, located at 1100 OK-56 Loop in Okmulgee.

The training will cover Election Day procedures, applicable laws and updated statewide guidelines to ensure officials are fully prepared to perform their duties. State law requires all precinct officials to complete this training.

For more information or to apply, contact the Okmulgee County Election Board at 918756-2365 or by email at OkmulgeeCounty@elections.ok.gov, or visit the State Election Board website at oklahoma. gov/elections/ volunteer/poll-worker- opportunities.html.
