Demons win three of four
By TIFFANY BELL SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Beggs claim 5-1 victory over Kiefer The Beggs Golden Demons secured a solid 5-1 win over Kiefer on March 30, backed by strong pitching and disciplined at-bats.

Beggs got on the board in the second inning, taking advantage of a dropped third strike and an infield single by Jerrett Hammer, with both plays bringing in a run to give the Golden Demons an early lead.

Hammer was domi- nant on the mound, earning the win after pitching a complete game. He allowed just two hits and one run over seven innings while striking out nine and walking two.

Trent Cantrell started on the mound for Kiefer, allowing two hits and two runs (none earned) over three innings, while striking out eight and walking four.

Offensively, Beggs spread the production throughout the lineup. Ethan Davison, Hammer, Colton McCoy and Dallas Wilson each recorded a hit. Dayson Sparkman, Davison, Hammer and Kash Coale each drove in a run.

The Golden Demons showed excellent plate discipline, drawing 13 walks in the game, with Coale leading the way with three. Sparkman and Davison created pressure on the bases, each stealing multiple bags as Beggs totaled six stolen bases.

Defensively, Beggs turned one double play to help secure the win.

For Kiefer, Landon Ruggieri and Daxton Smith each recorded a hit. Kiefer also turned a double play and played a clean game defensively, with Cord Bahling leading the team in fielding chances.

— Demons outlast Kiefer in extra-inning win The Beggs Golden Demons battled through a tightly contested game and came away with a 5-3 extra-inning victory over Kiefer on March 31.

Beggs struck first in the opening inning when Landon Helt scored on a sacrifice play after tagging up, giving the Golden Demons an early 1-0 lead.

Kiefer answered in the fifth inning, capitalizing on a Beggs error to even the score at 1-1. The backand-forth battle continued into the sixth, when Ethan Davison delivered an RBI single to put Beggs back on top, 2-1. Kiefer responded again in the bottom half, as Landon Easton singled to center field to tie the game at 2-2.

After several scoreless innings, Beggs broke through in the top of the 11th. Colton McCoy started the rally with an RBI single, Davison drew a walk that brought in another run and Ty Woods added an RBI groundout to give the Golden Demons a 5-2 advantage.

On the mound, Helt delivered a strong start for Beggs, allowing just two hits and two runs (none earned) over five and two-thirds innings while striking out three. Kash Coale was dominant in relief, tossing three and one-third scoreless innings, giving up three hits while striking out three and walking two.

Kiefer’s Landon Ruggieri also turned in a solid performance, allowing four hits and two runs (one earned) over six innings with five strikeouts.

Offensively, Beggs totaled 10 hits, with Helt leading the way by going 3-for-5. McCoy added two hits, while Davison drove in a team-high two runs. The Golden Demons also played strong defense, turning two double plays.

Kiefer finished with nine hits, led by Trent Cantrell, who went 3-for-4 and added two stolen bases. Ranson Stephens and Easton each drove in a run, while the team totaled four stolen bases. Kiefer also turned two double plays and played error-free defense, with Cord Bahling leading the team in fielding chances.

In a game filled with momentum swings, the Demons’ persistence paid off as they secured the extra-inning win for a sweep of the Trojans. — Sparkman’s big day powers Beggs past Hugo The Beggs Golden Demons put together a strong all-around performance on April 2, defeating the Hugo Varsity Buffaloes 9-1 behind a standout day from Dayson Sparkman.

Sparkman led the offensive charge, driving in five runs on two hits. He delivered a bases-clearing single in the second inning and added another RBI hit later in the game to fuel Beggs’ scoring.

Hugo struck first in the opening inning when Zane Allen doubled to bring in a run. However, Beggs quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning. The Golden Demons took the lead after Colton Mc-Coy drew a walk, Ethan Davison was hit by a pitch and Sparkman added an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Beggs extended its lead in the second inning, plating three more runs, highlighted by Sparkman’s three-run single to push the advantage to 6-1.

On the mound, Ty Woods was dominant for Beggs, allowing just one hit and one run over five innings while striking out seven and walking three.

Ja’Mari Scroggins took the loss for Hugo, allowing six runs on four hits over two innings, while striking out two and walking five.

Offensively, Dallas Wilson led Beggs with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, while Landon Helt added two hits. The Golden Demons also showed patience, drawing six walks, with Lane Kelley and McCoy leading the way with two each.

Beggs was aggressive on the base paths, stealing six bases, with Kelley and Helt each swiping multiple bags. The Golden Demons also played clean defense, committing no errors and turning a double play, with Wilson leading the team in fielding chances.

For Hugo, Allen accounted for the team’s lone RBI, going 1-for-1 on the day.

With the win, the Golden Demons combined timely hitting, strong pitching and solid defense to secure a convincing victory.

— Pirates defeat Demons with third-inning surge Fans at April 4’s county dual matchup saw the Preston Pirates pull ahead with a decisive third-inning surge to secure a 9-1 win over the Beggs Golden Demons. Both teams showcased strong pitching and timely hitting early in the game, but the Pirates’ offense ignited midway through the contest.

Preston struck first in the second inning when Pepper Gallup sent a solo home run over the leftfield fence, giving the Pirates an early 1-0 lead. Beggs responded with aggressive base running, as Lane Kelley swiped two bases during the game and Ethan Davison recorded a hit, showing the Demons’ ability to apply pressure on the Pirates’ defense.

The game turned in the third inning. Preston tallied six runs on just two hits, including a grand slam by Weston Cope that put the Pirates in control. An error in the inning also contributed to the scoring, extending Preston’s lead to 7-0. The inning highlighted the Pirates’ patience at the plate and their ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities, while Beggs tried to limit the damage with strong defensive efforts and heads-up base running.

Kash Coale started on the mound for Beggs, pitching two and two-thirds innings. He allowed seven runs, though only one was earned, on three hits, striking out two and walking three. Coale worked to keep hitters off balance, but the third-inning rally proved difficult to contain. Preston countered with Kaden Dean on the mound, who delivered a standout performance, pitching four scoreless innings while striking out 11 and allowing just two walks.

Offensively, Beggs managed to put one run on the board late, with Davison going 1-for-3 to lead the team in hits. For Preston, Cope led the team with four RBIs from the seventh spot in the lineup, while Gallup went 3-for-3 at the plate, consistently finding gaps in the Demons’ defense. Defensively, the Pirates were flawless, committing no errors throughout the game, with Bryce McNac handling a team-high 16 chances with precision.

Despite the lopsided score, the game featured multiple moments of competitive play from the Demons. Beggs showcased solid fundamentals, including a double play in the middle innings and smart base running, signaling growth and preparation for future county dual matchups.
