Lady Pirates power through busy week with dominant performances
By Patrick Ford Editor

The Preston Lady Pirates put together an impressive stretch of softball this past week, showcasing offensive firepower, disciplined defense and steady pitching en route to three decisive victories over Crowder, Meeker and Davenport.

Preston opened the week in commanding fashion Thursday at Dewar, blanking the Crowder Demonettes 9-0 behind a five-run first inning that set the tone early. The Lady Pirates wasted no time at the plate, as Ashleigh Hurt delivered a two-run single, followed by RBI hits from Sophia Bunner and Tyleigh Edwards, who also drove in two runs.

In the circle, Kristin Holuby was dominant, tossing five shutout innings while allowing six hits and issuing no walks. Preston’s defense backed her up flawlessly, committing zero errors, with Olivia Beaver leading the effort with five defensive plays.

Offensively, the Lady Pirates tallied 12 hits, with Edwards leading the team in RBIs from the No. 8 spot in the lineup. Hurt, Alynn LeBlanc, Aiyana Beaver and Bunner each recorded two hits, highlighting the team’s balanced attack from top to bottom.

Later that same day, Preston continued its momentum with a 12-0 rout of the Meeker Lady Bulldogs, once again striking early and often. The Lady Pirates capitalized on both timely hitting and defensive miscues, plating five runs in the first inning and adding five more in the second.

LeBlanc jumpstarted the offense with an RBI triple, while Taylan Starr and Brooklyn Gertner also contributed triples in a six-hit second inning surge. Holuby doubled in a run, and Ashleigh Hurt added another RBI single as Preston overwhelmed Meeker’s pitching staff.

Holuby returned to the circle and delivered another efficient outing, allowing just two hits over four innings while keeping Meeker scoreless. Preston’s offense exploded for 16 hits in the contest, with seven players recording multi-hit games, including LeBlanc, Olivia Beaver, Holuby, Gertner, Bunner, Emma Savage and Starr.

The Lady Pirates again played clean defense without committing an error and even turned a double play, underscoring their all-around execution.

Preston wrapped up the week Saturday with a 9-4 win over Davenport, rallying from an early deficit to secure the victory. Davenport jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and extended it to 3-2 in the second, but Preston responded with resilience.

Ashleigh Hurt sparked the comeback with a game-tying home run in the first inning and later drew three walks, demonstrating patience and leadership at the plate. The Lady Pirates seized control in the third inning, erupting for five runs on five hits. The key blow came from Olivia Beaver, who delivered a two-run single to put Preston firmly ahead.

Holuby once again anchored the pitching staff, going the distance while allowing four runs (two earned) on nine hits. She issued no walks and kept Davenport from mounting a late rally.

At the plate, Preston collected 12 hits, led by Olivia Beaver’s perfect 3-for-3 performance. Brooklyn Gertner added two hits, and the Lady Pirates turned two double plays defensively to maintain control throughout the game.

Across the three contests, Preston’s consistency stood out. The Lady Pirates combined for 37 runs, 40 hits and zero errors in two of the three games, while their pitching staff allowed just four total runs in two shutouts and a complete-game effort.
