A plant sale, garden equipment demonstration and workday for garden members is scheduled at the Okmulgee County Community Garden Friday and Saturday, April 10-11. The garden is located at 1206 S. Belmont, just west of the Muscogee Creek Nation Medical Center.
According to Garden Executive Director Bob Seebeck, the annual plant sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days. Garden members have spent the last few weeks propagating a variety of plants for the sale, including vegetables and herbs, flowers and landscaping plants.
Some of those are houseplants such as Angel Wing Begonias, Pothos, Boston Ferns, 10” hanging baskets, succulents and landscape plants such as variegated Liriope, and Iris in mixed colors. Also, herbs such as Pineapple Sage, and native plants such as Coral Honeysuckle. Vegetables include tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, Swiss chard, cabbage, basil and lemon balm.
On Saturday Jim Shaw, owner/operator of Cedar Farm in Sand Springs, will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to demonstrate the capabilities of the BCSTwo Wheel Tractor and some of its equipment.
Shaw has been a BCS dealer and farming with the BCS for almost 20 years and enjoys sharing his knowledge of farming and BCS with others. In addition to the demonstration, Shaw will be available to answer questions about the equipment.
The demonstration is a collaboration between the Garden and the College of the Muscogee Nation Extension Service.
Free hot dogs with all the trimmings prepared on site, chips and a beverage will be available to those attending the demonstration.
Saturday is also a work day for Garden members. Seebeck says although the expansion project is still ongoing, there are things that need to be done and members can help with those.
Anyone with questions about the plant sale, BCS demonstration or workday needs, is encouraged to contact Seebeck at 918-231-3543.
