Oklahoma Virtual Charter Academy (OVCA) is recognizing Morris resident Jennifer Ratzloff, a math interventionist for grades 3-5, as one of its 2026 Teachers of the Year. The honor celebrates her dedication to student success, innovation and meeting students where they are.
Now in her 10th year at OVCA, Ratzloff brings a student-first mindset to her virtual classroom, combining creativity and technology to make math more engaging and accessible for students who need additional support.
“I’ve always believed in putting students first and supporting them in reaching their full potential,” Ratzloff said. “This is especially true for a subject like math, which can be intimidating at first glance. It’s an honor to be recognized for work that means so much to me.”
Ratzloff is the first OVCA teacher to pilot full-time teaching in the K12 Zone, an interactive virtual learning environment. With the help of technology and visual strategies, she helps students better understand math concepts, even incorporating Minecraft Education into her instruction to make learning more tangible.
“Jennifer is a truly exceptional educator and leader who consistently puts students first,” OVCA Head of School Audra Plummer said. “Her willingness to innovate and create new learning experiences, combined with her deep care for her students, continues to create a lasting impact while paving the way for the next generation of learners. She represents the best of OVCA.”
In addition to her innovative teaching, Ratzloff’s role at OVCA allows her to do the work she loves while managing a spine disorder that makes mobility difficult, which further underscores the accessibility of virtual education for both students and educators.
Ratzloff holds an associate’s degree in early childhood from Connor’s State College, a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State University and a master’s degree from Jones University. She is also trained in special education and elementary education, with additional expertise in traumatic brain injury, autism and advanced math instruction.
