Keep Okmulgee Beautiful Week approaches

Residents and businesses across the city are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and take part in Keep Okmulgee Beautiful Week, April 12-18.

The annual initiative is more than just a spring cleanup – it’s a chance for neighbors, families and local businesses to come together with a shared purpose: keeping Okmulgee clean, welcoming and thriving.

City officials are calling on everyone to participate by sprucing up properties, clearing away debris and improving the overall ap- pearance of neighborhoods throughout the community.

“This week is about more than picking up trash – it’s about pride,” organizers shared. “When people care for their homes and neighborhoods, it strengthens the entire community and creates a place we can all be proud of.”

To help residents tackle yard cleanup projects, the Okmulgee Fire Department will once again offer free burn permits for natural yard debris during the designated week.

Residents must apply for permits between April 6 and April 10 at the Okmulgee Fire Department. All permits must be approved in advance, and officials stress that no applications will be accepted after 5 p.m. on Friday, April 10.

This opportunity allows residents to safely dispose of brush and natural debris while contributing to the citywide effort.

There are several simple but impactful ways residents can take part:

• Clean yards and properties by removing trash, limbs and overgrown brush

• Apply for a free burn permit (April 6-10)

• Recycle items such as paper, plastic, cardboard and metal at the Okmulgee Recycle Center

• Properly dispose of waste at the Okmulgee Landfill Officials encourage residents to plan ahead and tackle those long-postponed cleanup projects – whether it’s clearing out a garage, trimming a yard or refreshing the front of a business.

In addition to the April event, residents can also take advantage of free trash-off days at the Okmulgee Landfill throughout the year from 8-11:30 a.m. on June 13, Sept. 19 and Dec. 5.

Residents must bring a current residential water bill and identification to verify residency when using these services.

The Okmulgee Recycle Center will continue accepting paper, plastic, cardboard and metal, and residents are encouraged to separate recyclable materials during their cleanup efforts.

City leaders emphasize that Keep Okmulgee Beautiful Week is a true community-wide effort, made possible each year by the support of volunteers, civic groups and local businesses.

These collective efforts not only improve the city’s appearance but also enhance safety, boost community spirit and create a more inviting environment for both residents and visitors.
