It was a day of pride, perseverance and celebration for Henryetta Public Schools, as the Henryetta High School A.B.L.E. Knights turned in an exceptional performance at last week’s Special Olympics Regional competition earning a clean sweep of state qualifications as an entire team.
According to information released by Knight Vision, every A.B.L.E. Knight competitor placed in their respective events, securing a spot at the Special Olympics State Games set for May. The accomplishment marks a major milestone for the program and highlights the dedication of the student-athletes, coaches and unified partners who continue to represent Henryetta with excellence.
Leading the charge were multiple firstplace finishers who showcased both speed and strength on the track and in field events.
Anna McConnell delivered a dominant performance in wheelchair events, capturing first place in both the 25-meter and 30-meter races. Teammate Jaden Peavler matched that success, earning gold medals in the 30-meter and 100-meter wheelchair races. Devon (Lorene) Jamison had one of the most impressive all-around showings of the day, taking first place in the 100-meter run and adding another gold in shot put. Adrian Skinner also stood atop the podium with a first-place finish in the 100-meter run, while placing fourth in the 100-meter walk.
Chris West contributed a strong effort across multiple events, earning first in the 100-meter run, second in the 200-meter run and helping secure a second-place finish in the relay. Safeara Ramsey added to the team’s depth with a second-place finish in the 100-meter run, third in the 200-meter run and a second-place relay finish.
Other athletes added valuable points and podium finishes throughout the meet. Emmelie Stansifer also reached the podium with a second-place finish in the 200-meter run.
The success extended beyond the A.B.L.E. athletes, as Henryetta’s unified partners and track team members played a key role in relay events. Nathan Nail and Gavin Williams each contributed to a second-place relay finish, underscoring the teamwork and inclusive spirit that defines the Special Olympics program.
The regional meet served not only as a qualifier but as a showcase of determination, sportsmanship and growth. For Henryetta’s A.B.L.E. Knights, the results reflect countless hours of preparation and a commitment to giving their best effort in every event.
With momentum firmly on their side, the entire team now turns its attention to the upcoming State Games in May, where they will compete together on a larger stage.
