Lady Pirates power through big week
By Patrick Ford Editor

The Preston Lady Pirates turned in a dominant week on the diamond, showcasing a relentless offense and consistent production up and down the lineup as they went 3-1 across four games, highlighted by three run-rule victories and a narrow, hard-fought loss.

Preston opened the stretch in emphatic fashion with a 14-2 win over Moss on Thursday, fueled by a massive first inning that set the tone early. The Lady Pirates erupted for 10 runs in the opening frame, with contributions coming from nearly every spot in the lineup. Alynn LeBlanc and Brooklyn Gertner each drove in two runs with singles, while Tyleigh Edwards, Taylan Starr, Kristin Holuby and Kynlee Martin all added RBIs in the inning.

Holuby led the offensive charge, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a home run, double and single. She also earned the win in the circle, allowing just two runs on five hits over three innings. Preston collected 14 hits in the game and played flawless defense, committing no errors.

The momentum carried into another dominant performance later Thursday, as Preston overwhelmed Oklahoma Union with a 14-3 victory. Once again, the Lady Pirates wasted no time, plating 13 runs in the first inning in one of their most explosive frames of the season.

Gertner delivered a standout performance, driving in four runs on three hits, including a three-run home run. Taylan Starr added a two-run homer, while Isabella Turner, Aiyana Beaver and Ashleigh Hurt all contributed multiple RBIs in the inning. Preston finished with 15 hits in the contest.

Holuby started in the circle, allowing three runs over two innings, while Olivia Beaver provided a strong relief appearance with a scoreless inning. The Lady Pirates again showed defensive consistency, committing no errors.

On Friday, Preston continued its winning ways with a 12-0 shutout victory over Sperry. Ashleigh Hurt powered the offense with a grand slam in the third inning, finishing with four RBIs. Kynlee Martin added a home run, while Holuby contributed at the plate and in the circle.

Holuby tossed four shutout innings, scattering five hits without issuing a walk. Preston totaled 13 hits in the contest, with Hurt, Martin, Holuby and Sophia Bunner each collecting two hits. The Lady Pirates also displayed patience at the plate, drawing five walks, while once again playing error-free defense.

The week concluded with a dramatic showdown against Prague, where Preston came up just short in an 11-10 loss despite a late rally. Martin delivered a standout performance, blasting two home runs—including a grand slam in the seventh inning – and driving in six runs.

Preston trailed late but mounted a furious comeback, scoring five runs in the final inning to nearly complete the rally. Hurt added three hits and an RBI, while the Lady Pirates finished with 11 hits in the contest.

Despite the loss, Preston’s offense remained red-hot, but Prague capitalized on 17 hits to secure the win.

Over the four-game stretch, the Lady Pirates combined for 51 runs and an impressive 53 hits, while committing zero errors in three of the four contests – an indication of both offensive firepower and defensive discipline.

With key contributors like Holuby, Gertner, Hurt and Martin leading the way, Preston continues to establish itself as a formidable force as the season progresses.
