Ashleigh Hurt turned in a performance for the record books Monday, blasting two home runs and driving in nine runs to lead the Preston Lady Pirates to a 24-12 victory over Haskell in a high-scoring showdown.
The Lady Pirates jumped out early in the first inning, taking advantage of aggressive baserunning and power hitting. Hurt launched a three-run home run to center field, helping Preston build an early lead.
Both teams traded offensive blows throughout the contest, combining for 41 hits in a game that featured constant scoring. Preston continued to pull away in the third inning with contributions from Hurt and Olivia Beaver, before adding five runs in the fourth behind doubles from Brooklyn Gertner and Beaver.
Haskell answered with a two-run home run from Izzie Young in the third inning and continued to produce offensively, finishing with 17 hits.
Preston’s biggest surge came in the sixth inning, when the Lady Pirates plated seven runs. Hurt capped the inning with an electrifying inside-thepark home run, adding three more RBIs to her total.
Preston finished with 24 hits, with multiple-hit performances from Olivia Beaver, Kynlee Martin, Kristin Holuby, Gertner, Aiyana Beaver, Sophia Bunner and Taylan Starr.
Holuby earned the win in the circle, pitching six innings while allowing 12 runs on 17 hits.
Young led Haskell with a 3-for-4 performance and five RBIs, while several teammates added multi-hit efforts.
