Henryetta names Interim Chief of Police

The City of Henryetta is entering a new chapter in its law enforcement leadership, as City Manager David Bullard announced the appointment of Joey Cantrell as Interim Chief of Police, effective April 1.

The appointment ensures continuity within the Henryetta Police Department while city officials begin the process of identifying a permanent leader to guide the department forward, following the retirement of Chief Steve Norman.

“We are pleased to have Joey Cantrell step into this vital leadership role,” City Manager David Bullard said. “His experience will provide a steady hand during this transition.”

Cantrell’s appointment comes at a pivotal time, as the city emphasizes stability, professionalism

In conjunction with Cantrell’s interim appointment, the City of Henryetta has officially launched a competitive search for a permanent Chief of Police. City officials are seeking a candidate who brings both experience and vision to the role, with a focus on strengthening public safety efforts and community relationships.

The position requires a minimum of 10 years of law enforcement experience, including supervisory or command-level leadership. Candidates must also hold current certification through the Oklahoma Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET), ensuring they meet state standards for peace officers.

While a bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred, it is not required.

The selected candidate will work directly under the direction of the City Manager and will be tasked with leading a department committed to public safety, community engagement and administrative excellence.

The application period for the Chief of Police position will remain open through May 1.

Interested candidates are asked to submit a resume, cover letter and three professional references to the Office of the City Manager, located at 115 S. 4th Street in Henryetta. Applications may also be submitted via email at citymanager@cityofhenryetta. org. For additional information, applicants may contact the City of Henryetta at 918-6523348.
