Gumbo Classic begins Thursday

Dewar welcomes teams from across eastern Oklahoma for the annual Joe Fowler Gumbo Classic, scheduled for April 2-4, in both baseball and softball action.

— Baseball Tournament Format & Schedule The three-day baseball tournament promises a full slate of competitive action, bringing together a strong field that includes Dewar, Henryetta, Asher, Warner, Central Sallisaw, Gore, Tushka, Meeker and Kiefer. With a structured bracket, a consolation round and a championship finale, the event is expected to draw both dedicated baseball fans and community supporters.

Play begins Thursday with opening-round games:

• 11 a.m. – Game 1: Dewar vs. Central Sallisaw • 1 p.m. – Game 2: Gore vs. Tushka

• 3 p.m. – Game 3: Meeker vs. Kiefer

• 5 p.m. – Game 4: Asher vs. Warner

• 7 p.m. – Game 5: Winner of Game 4 vs. Henryetta Winners will advance through the bracket into Friday’s semifinal matchups:

• 3 p.m. – Upper Bracket Semifinal

• 5 p.m. – Lower Bracket Semifinal The tournament will culminate Saturday with placement games:

• 11 a.m. – Consolation Final

• 1 p.m. – 3rd Place Game

• 3 p.m. – Championship Game — Softball Tournament Format & Schedule The tournament’s softball division is shaping up to be just as exciting with a strong lineup of teams and a fast-paced round-robin format.

The Dewar Softball Gumbo Classic will feature eight teams split into two pools, guaranteeing multiple games and a full weekend of action for players and fans alike.

The tournament will open with pool play, dividing teams into two competitive groups. Pool A will feature Meeker, Porum, Preston and Crowder, while Pool B will include Dewar, Davenport, Liberty and Moss.

Each team will compete within its pool to determine seeding heading into Saturday’s final placement games.

Pool A teams will take the field Thursday, April 2, beginning at noon:

• 12 p.m. – Crowder vs. Meeker

• 1:30 p.m. – Crowder vs. Porum

• 3 p.m. – Meeker vs. Porum

• 4:30 p.m. – Crowder vs. Preston

• 6 p.m. – Meeker vs. Preston

• 7:30 p.m. – Preston vs. Dewar The Thursday slate will give teams an early opportunity to establish momentum and positioning within Pool A. Action shifts to Pool B on Friday, April 3, with another full day of games:

• 12 p.m. – Liberty vs. Dewar

• 1:30 p.m. – Davenport vs. Liberty

• 3 p.m. – Davenport vs. Dewar

• 4:30 p.m. – Liberty vs. Moss

• 6 p.m. – Moss vs. Davenport

• 7:30 p.m. – Dewar vs. Moss With host Dewar competing in Pool B, local fans will have plenty of opportunities to support the Lady Dragons throughout the day.

Following two days of pool play, teams will be seeded based on their records and advance to Saturday’s final matchups:

• 10:30 a.m. – 4th Place Game (A vs. B)

• 12 p.m. – 3rd Place Game (A vs. B)

• 1:30 p.m. – 2nd Place Game (A vs. B)

• 3 p.m. – 1st Place Game (A vs. B) Admission for the event is set at $5 for general admission and $3 for senior citizens, making it an affordable outing for families and fans.
