Community members are invited to attend a Free Car Care Clinic this Saturday, March 28, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Rob’s Truck & Auto Repair, located at 605 E. 6th Street in Okmulgee, directly across from Boomarang Diner.
The clinic is hosted by veteran-owned Rob’s Truck & Auto Repair. Owner Robert “Rob” Coer says he is offering the clinic to help people better understand how to care for their vehicles and stay safe in real-world roadside situations.
“This is something for the community that they don’t teach at school anymore,” Coer said, explaining that many drivers have never been shown basic car maintenance or safety practices.
Participants will learn practical skills that can help prevent breakdowns and reduce risk during emergencies, including: • How to properly change a tire
• How to check engine oil and identify potential mechanical problems
• How to inspect an air filter
• How to properly secure a vehicle so it does not roll during maintenance
• What safety items should always be kept in your car
• How to recognize early warning signs of mechanical issues Coer also shared real-world safety examples drivers may not always consider. One important point he emphasized is knowing what to do if your car breaks down on the roadside. According to Coer, in many situations the safest place to remain is inside the vehicle, rather than standing outside near traffic where the risk of injury increases.
He also encouraged drivers to consider keeping emergency items in their vehicle, including a reflective safety vest, fire extinguisher, properly inflated spare tire and emergency supplies, such as a first aid kit and blanket stored in a sealed bag.
Coer plans to make the Free Car Care Clinic a monthly opportunity for community members to build confidence and learn essential vehicle care skills that can help prevent costly repairs and improve roadside safety.
The event is free and open to the public.
Community members of all experience levels are encouraged to attend, ask questions and gain practical knowledge that can help keep them safer on the road.
