Morris announces Spring Cleanup, Citywide Garage Sale April 11-19

Residents of Morris are being encouraged to freshen up their homes and neighborhoods as the city prepares for its annual Spring Cleanup and Citywide Garage Sale, set for April 11-19.

The weeklong event offers citizens an opportunity to declutter, dispose of unwanted items, and take part in a community-wide effort to improve the appearance of the city – just in time for the spring season.

City officials say the clean-up initiative is designed to make disposal convenient while maintaining safety and environmental guidelines. Dumpsters will be available throughout the event at the city yard on 3rd Street, north of the local feed store, with additional disposal options at the Morris Lake site.

To participate, residents must provide proof of residency. A current City of Morris water bill is preferred, though officials note that a utility bill from providers such as AEP-PSO or ONG showing a current address will also be accepted if a water bill is unavailable.

The city has outlined several important guidelines for those planning to take part in the cleanup:

• No tires will be accepted.

• Items containing refrigerants are prohibited.

• Mattresses and box springs cannot be disposed of.

• Participants must be able to unload their own items.

The Morris Lake location will be reserved specifically for brush and lumber, with the stipulation that lumber must be free of nails.

Operating hours for disposal are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with Sunday hours from 1-4 p.m.

In addition to the cleanup effort, the event coincides with the citywide garage sale, giving residents a chance to turn unwanted items into someone else’s treasure while promoting community engagement.

City officials encourage residents to take advantage of the opportunity to tidy up properties, reduce clutter and contribute to the overall appearance and pride of Morris neighborhoods.

For more information, residents may contact Morris City Hall at 918-733-4222.
