Sharing the Outdoors
By DAWN CARTER REPORTER

Rocky Ridge Resort is adding a creative touch to its guest experience with the release of new coloring books designed by owner Udonna Edmonds, an effort that blends relaxation, education and small-business ingenuity into one thoughtful offering.

The coloring books were created with families in mind, providing an engaging activity that fits naturally with the peaceful, outdoor atmosphere the resort is known for. Instead of relying on screens for entertainment, guests, especially children, can enjoy a quiet, hands-on activity that complements the slower pace of nature. Edmonds said the goal was simple: offer something enjoyable that helps guests connect more deeply with their surroundings.

“A coloring book fits perfectly with the peaceful, outdoor vibe of Rocky Ridge Resort,” Edmonds explained. “It gives families something fun and relaxing to do while they’re staying on the property.”

Beyond entertainment, the books are designed to make each stay feel more personal. Small details can make a lasting impression, and Edmonds wanted guests to leave with more than just memories of a place, they leave with something tangible that reflects the care put into their experience.

The pages feature themes connected to the natural environment and outdoor living, including local wildlife and camping safety reminders. By incorporating these elements, the books help introduce visitors to the characteristics that make the resort unique while gently reinforcing awareness about enjoying nature responsibly.

Edmonds also views the coloring books as part of a broader strategy to sustain and grow the small business. Once the design process was complete, the books were published through Amazon, making them easy for guests, friends and supporters to order and share.

“For a small business like ours, every opportunity to grow matters,” Edmonds said. “These coloring books create an additional income stream and help introduce new people to Rocky Ridge Resort.”

Because marketing budgets can often be limited for independently owned destinations, the coloring books serve a dual purpose. Guests can purchase copies online and share finished artwork on social media, helping spread awareness of the resort organically through community networks.

The project reflects the values Rocky Ridge Resort aims to embody: family-centered experiences, creativity, appreciation for the outdoors and a hands-on approach to hospitality. Rather than simply offering lodging, Edmonds continues to find ways to make each stay interactive and memorable.

“It’s not just a product,” Edmonds said. “It’s an extension of the experience we want our guests to have when staying with us.”

The coloring books are currently available online through Amazon.

As Rocky Ridge Resort continues to grow, initiatives like this highlight how small businesses are finding innovative ways to serve their guests while strengthening community connections.
