Okmulgee to host track meet Friday
By Patrick Ford Editor

Area track and field athletes will take center stage this week as Okmulgee Public Schools prepares to host its annual High School Boys & Girls Track & Field Meet on Friday, March 27, at historic Harmon Stadium.

The event, organized by Okmulgee High School, is expected to draw teams from across the region for a full day of competition featuring both running and field events. According to meet information, the facility is located at 601 E. 12th Street, with access from Highway 75 and parking available in the stadium’s large lot.

Coaches will begin the day with a meeting at 9:30 a.m., followed by the start of field events at 10 a.m. Running events will proceed on a rolling schedule, beginning with relay races and distance events before transitioning into sprints and hurdle competitions later in the day.

The meet will be divided into two classifications boys and girls – with Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) rules governing all competition. Organizers note that each school is limited to one relay team per division, with additional “B” teams allowed only with prior approval. Individual competitors may enter up to four events, including relays.

Field events will include long jump, high jump, pole vault, discus, and shot put, with each athlete receiving three preliminary attempts. The top eight competitors will advance to finals for three additional attempts, creating a competitive environment across all disciplines.

On the track, spectators can expect a full slate of races, including the 100-meter dash, hurdles, 400-meter and 800-meter runs, distance races such as the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs, and multiple relay events throughout the day. A timed finals format will be used, ensuring that every race contributes directly to team standings.

With favorable spring conditions and a full schedule of events, Friday’s meet is shaping up to be a showcase of talent and competition for high school track programs across the region. Fans are encouraged to attend and support the athletes as they compete for individual honors and team titles on Okmulgee’s home track.
