Statewide election activity officially begins at 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, when the candidate filing period opens.
Candidates for state offices file with the Secretary of State Election Board, while candidates for county offices file with the Secretary of the County Election Board.
According to Okmulgee County Election Board Secretary Ashley Carnes, the following county offices are ex- pected to be filled this year:
• County Treasurer
• County Assessor
• County Commissioner 1
• County Commissioner 3 Filing forms and information for county offices may be obtained by contacting the Okmulgee County Election Board at 918-756-2365 or OkmulgeeCounty@ elections.ok.gov. The Okmulgee County Election Board is located at 314 W. 7th Street, Room 102, in Okmulgee, and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Filing packets for all offices are also available for download on the State Election Board’s website at oklahoma.gov/elections.
The election board office will have extended hours for the filing period starting April 1 at 8 a.m. and ending April 7 at 5 p.m.
April 3 is Good Friday, and the courthouse will be closed on this holiday. All declarations must be notarized before coming to the Election Board office. There will be no notary available at the courthouse to notarize paperwork.
Early voting is also on Good Friday, and the office will be open until 6 p.m. The statutory filing period will close at 5 p.m.
