The Beggs JH powerlifting team wrapped up a successful 2026 season defined by steady improvement, individual milestones and representation at the state meet in El Reno. With multiple athletes earning placements at state and every lifter achieving personal bests throughout the year, the program continued to build a strong foundation for the future.
Leading the way at the state level for Beggs were several standout performances across both seventh and eighth grade divisions. In the 145-pound class, seventh grader Andrew Harvey secured a 7th-place finish, posting lifts of 225 in the squat, 130 on the bench and 290 in the deadlift. Harvey’s performance capped off a season of consistent progress and competitiveness.
Teammate Ben Wallen competed in the 168-pound division, finishing 13th overall with a 190-pound squat, 110-pound bench and 280-pound deadlift. Wallen showed steady improvement throughout the season and carried that momentum into the state meet.
In the heavyweight division, Dylan Houser added another placement for Beggs, finishing 11th overall. Houser recorded lifts of 260 in the squat, 135 on the bench, and 260 in the deadlift, closing out his season with a strong showing against a competitive field.
At the eighth grade level, Michael Cruz turned in one of the top finishes for the Demons, placing 6th overall in the 132-pound class. Cruz totaled lifts of 240 in the squat, 150 on the bench and 290 in the deadlift, highlighting his development and strength throughout the season.
While those athletes represented Beggs at the state meet, the success of the 2026 season extended well beyond those who advanced. Every member of the junior high powerlifting team achieved personal bests during the season, reflecting the hard work and commitment shown in the weight room and in competition.
From the first meet to the final lifts of the year, Beggs lifters consistently improved their totals, demonstrating growth in strength, technique, and confidence. The team’s progress was evident across all grade levels, as athletes continued to push themselves and support one another throughout the season.
The experience gained at the state meet, combined with the overall development of the entire roster, provides momentum heading into future seasons. With young athletes continuing to improve and gain valuable competition experience, the Beggs junior high program is positioned to remain competitive and continue its upward trajectory.
As the 2026 season comes to a close, the Demons leave with more than just state placements – they carry forward a year of progress, perseverance and personal achievement that will continue to shape the program in the years ahead.
