Beggs’ boys track team turned in a strong showing at the Glenpool Invitational Friday, facing stiff competition from larger Class 6A and 5A schools while showcasing depth across relays, sprints, distance races and field events.
The sprint relays were a highlight for the Golden Demons. The 4×100 relay team of Jordan Wesley, Trey Ross, Josiah Hughes and Brayden King finished in 44.16 seconds, placing sixth overall. In the 4×200 relay, Wesley, Ross, Sterling Jordan and King also placed sixth, crossing the line in 1:32.1.
Individually, Trey Ross led the team in the 100 meters with an 11.21-second finish, earning second place overall against a highly competitive field. Jordan Wesley, Josiah Hughes and Sterling Jordan turned in strong performances in the 200 meters, clocking 23.36, 24.27 and 25.05 seconds, respectively. In the 400 meters, Kenneth Vaden ran 1:01.32, while Kingdennis Hart finished in 1:16.64.
The middle-distance runners also stood out. Jackson Turner led the 800 meters with a 2:21.58 finish, followed by Eligah Dye at 2:26.68 and Tripp Hall at 2:29.68, giving the team solid points in distance events.
Field events showcased the versatility of the Demons. Brayden King led the long jump with an 18-foot, 4½-inch leap, while Baker Copeland added a jump of 16 feet, 11 inches. In the shot put, Jason Nethon threw 41 feet, 9 inches, with Mike Lewis and Dean Richardson contributing throws of 37 feet, 7 inches and 33 feet, 2 inches. Nethon and Aiden Taylor also recorded strong performances in the discus with throws of 67 feet, 3 inches and 105 feet, 8 inches, respectively.
The team competed against an array of schools across classifications, including Class 6A powerhouses such as Bixby, Broken Arrow, Muskogee and Ponca City, as well as Class 5A and 4A schools, while representing Class 3A alongside Okmulgee and Sequoyah (Tahlequah).
The Glenpool Invitational provided valuable experience for Beggs’ athletes, allowing them to measure their performances against larger programs while developing team depth and consistency across events. Sprinting, distance and field efforts alike contributed to a well-rounded showing for the Golden Demons.
Reflecting on the meet, Coach Jason Sport emphasized the importance of competition and teamwork. “It was great to get things going and I loved watching our team compete,” Sport said. “There were a lot of bigger schools here, but at the end of the day we are competing against the clock and trying to be the best version of ourselves. The sky is the limit for our team.”
The Beggs Demons varsity boys track teams will be back in action on Saturday, March 28, at Stroud, where they will look to continue competing at a high level and improve upon their performances.
Beggs will also be hosting a middle school track and field day on Tuesday, March 24.
