Residents interested in learning more about their family history are invited to connect with the Okmulgee County Genealogy Society, a local organization dedicated to helping people uncover their past. The society is currently seeking new members and encourages anyone with an interest in genealogy to get involved. Members and volunteers with experience in family research are available to help answer questions such as when a family first arrived in Oklahoma, where earlier generations may have lived, and how ancestors eventually made their way to Okmulgee County.
Those interested in beginning their search can visit the Genealogy Library located inside the Okmulgee Public Library at the corner of 8th Street and Okmulgee Avenue. The library offers a variety of historical records, research materials and other resources designed to help individuals trace their family roots.
