The Okmulgee Lions Club welcomed an informative and forward- looking program during its Tuesday, March 3, meeting, as members heard from Deb Marshall about the continued growth and development taking place across the community.
Marshall, who serves as executive director of the Okmulgee Area Development Corporation (OADC), shared an encouraging snapshot of the local economy and highlighted the organization’s ongoing efforts to strengthen industry, support workforce development and position Okmulgee for future investment.
Her presentation focused on the importance of economic development and the role the OADC plays in helping attract and retain manufacturing and industrial partners in the region.
“Economic development and growth are very important parts of our mission,” Marshall explained, noting that Okmulgee continues to be home to a strong base of manufacturers producing goods that reach markets well beyond the community.
Marshall highlighted the many companies currently manufacturing products in the Okmulgee area and noted that several businesses are expanding operations or considering additional investments.
One of the most notable developments, she said, is the recent expansion and equipment upgrade completed by Anchor Glass, one of the city’s largest industrial employers.
She added that other area manufacturers are also exploring expansion opportunities, demonstrating confidence in the region’s workforce and economic outlook.
To further spotlight the community’s industrial base, the OADC has launched a video series highlighting local manufacturers. The videos showcase the people, processes and products behind Okmulgee’s manufacturing sector and are available online through the organization’s YouTube channel.
The goal of the series is to help residents better understand the industries operating in their own backyard while also promoting the community to potential investors and business partners.
Marshall also discussed progress at the city’s industrial park and infrastructure improvements designed to attract additional business development.
One key project involves the rebuilding of 1 Fairground Road, an effort made possible through a partnership between the OADC and the Muscogee Nation. The project represents a significant investment in infrastructure that will support current and future industrial activity.
She explained that improving access and infrastructure within the industrial park helps make Okmulgee more competitive when companies are looking for locations to expand or relocate.
Another major focus of Marshall’s presentation centered on workforce development and the partnerships helping prepare the next generation of skilled workers.
Organizations working together to support that effort include the Green Country Workforce Development Board, OSUIT and the College of the Muscogee Nation.
These partners collaborate with local employers to ensure students and job seekers have access to training programs aligned with the needs of local industry.
Marshall emphasized that building a skilled workforce is one of the most important factors in attracting new employers to the area.

During the meeting, the club also welcomed one of its newest members, Chase Nunn. Nunn received his Lions Club pins from District Governor Nancy Wood as members applauded his commitment to community service.
The Lions Club continues to welcome new members who are interested in volunteering and supporting projects that benefit the Okmulgee community.
In keeping with Lions Club tradition, the meeting also included a bit of fun. Member Mike Morrison was the lucky winner of the club’s weekly Bingo drawing and selected a prize from the Lions’ treasure chest.
While the meetings often include informative programs and updates on community initiatives, they also provide members with fellowship and opportunities to celebrate the spirit of service.
Looking ahead, Lions members are encouraging the public to come out and support one of the organization’s most anticipated annual events.
The Okmulgee Lions Club Pancake Day will be held Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 401 S. Seminole Ave. in Okmulgee. All are welcome to enjoy a delicious meal while supporting the Okmulgee Lions Club.
At $10 per meal, attendees will receive a full breakfast, including pancakes, bacon, sausage, juice, milk, syrup and butter.

Pancake Day has long been a tradition in the community, drawing families, business leaders and residents together for a hearty meal while supporting the Lions Club’s many service projects.
Residents are encouraged to stop by for breakfast or lunch, visit with friends and neighbors, and help support the ongoing work of the Lions Club.
As the organization continues its mission of service, events like Pancake Day remain a reminder.
