Keep Okmulgee Beautiful Week set April 12-18

Residents encouraged to clean up properties, apply for free burn permits and take advantage of community cleanup opportunities.

The City of Okmulgee is inviting residents and businesses to help spruce up the community during Keep Okmulgee Beautiful Week, scheduled for April 12-18. The annual effort encourages citizens to take pride in their neighborhoods by cleaning yards, removing debris and improving the appearance of homes and businesses across

As part of the initiative, the Okmul‑gee Fire Department will offer free burn permits to residents who need to dispose of natural yard debris during the cleanup week. Permits must be ap‑plied for in advance and approved by the fire department before any burn‑ing can take place.

Residents wishing to participate should apply for a burn permit be‑tween April 6 and April 10 at the Ok‑mulgee Fire Department. If the appli‑cation is approved, the permit will be issued free of charge for use during Keep Okmulgee Beautiful Week. City officials remind residents that no per‑mit applications will be accepted after 5 p.m. on Friday, April 10.

Community leaders say the week‑long event is an opportunity for ev‑eryone to pitch in and help keep Ok‑mulgee looking its best.

“Keep Okmulgee Beautiful Week is about community pride,” organizers said. “When residents work togeth‑er to clean up their properties and neighborhoods, it makes a lasting im‑pact on the appearance and spirit of our city.”

— How Residents Can Participate Residents can take part in several ways during the week:

• Clean up yards and properties by removing trash, debris and overgrown brush.

• Apply for a burn permit at the Okmulgee Fire Department between April 6-10.

• Recycle materials such as paper, plastic, cardboard and metal at the Okmulgee Recycle Center.

• Dispose of household trash prop‑erly at the Okmulgee Landfill.

City officials also remind residents that free trash-off days will be avail‑able throughout the year at the Ok‑mulgee Landfill from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the following dates:

• March 7

• June 13

• Sept. 19

• Dec. 5 Residents using the landfill on these free days must bring a current resi‑dential water bill and identification to verify residency.

Officials emphasize that the Ok‑mulgee Recycle Center accepts only paper, plastic, cardboard and metal materials, and encourage residents to separate recyclable items appropriate‑ly when cleaning out garages, yards and storage areas.

— A Community Effort

City leaders expressed appreciation for the businesses, civic groups and volunteers who continue to support community cleanup initiatives each year. These efforts, they say, help make Okmulgee a more attractive and wel‑coming place for residents and visi‑tors alike.

“Together we can make a difference,” organizers noted. “When everyone does their part, we keep our neigh‑borhoods safe, clean and beautiful.”

Residents are encouraged to begin planning their cleanup projects now and to stop by the Okmulgee Fire De‑partment between April 6-10 to se‑cure a burn permit if needed.

As the city prepares for the spring cleanup event, organizers hope the week will inspire renewed community pride across Okmulgee.

“Keep Okmulgee Proud and Rising.” And as the message of the event reminds residents, do your part to keep your home and business looking beautiful all year long.
