In the aftermath of the recent tornado that caused significant damage across the Beggs community and forced school closures, a national nonprofit organization is stepping in to provide support and a sense of normalcy for local children.
Project:Camp has announced it will host a free day camp for children ages 6-16 who were impacted by the tornado, offering a safe place for kids to gather, play and connect while families continue navigating recovery efforts.
The camp will be held at First Assembly of God, 401 E. Main St. in Beggs, with daily activities scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Organizers are currently assessing interest for sessions that could run March 11 through March 20.
Project:Camp leaders say the goal of the program is to provide emotional support and meaningful activities for children whose routines have been disrupted by the storm.
The camp will feature a full day of structured fun designed to help kids relax and build friendships during a difficult time. Activities will include games, group activities and social opportunities that allow children to interact with peers in a positive environment.
In addition to recreational activities, lunch and snacks will be provided daily, ensuring that families facing challenges after the storm have one less thing to worry about.
Community members can also get involved by volunteering to help support the camp and its activities.
Parents or guardians interested in registering their children – or individuals interested in volunteering can do so online at projectcamp.co/ ok-tornado.
A free day camp for all Beggs students ages 6-16 will be held March 12-13 and March 16-20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
Lunch and snacks will be provided, and kids will have a safe place to play, connect and just be kids while the community continues recovering.
All campers, volunteers and teachers must register for the event.
