Beggs adjusts schedules following storm damage

Beggs Athletic Director David Shannon expressed gratitude to neighboring schools and communities for their support during a challenging time.

“First, I would like to thank all of the area schools for reaching out and offering their help and prayers,” Shannon said. “We may be rivals on the fields and courts, but it is truly a blessing that we can come together as people to help when others are in need.”

Shannon confirmed there is significant damage to the school’s baseball and softball facilities, which will continue to be evaluated in the coming days. As a result, all upcoming home baseball and softball games will be moved to off-campus locations for the time being. School officials are asking the public to avoid the school area while restoration crews work to secure the site and ensure it is safe. They expressed appreciation for the many individuals who have reached out offering assistance, but emphasized that safety remains the top priority at this time. The public will be notified when conditions allow volunteers to safely assist with the recovery efforts.

The softball program has been graciously granted permission by the Muscogee Creek Nation to use the fields at the MCN Sports Complex in Okmulgee for both games and practices during the upcoming week. The scheduled softball games include Monday, March 9, at Preston (4 p.m.), Tuesday, March 10, vs. Haskell at the MN Sports Complex (4 p.m.), Thursday, March 12, vs. Sperry at the MN Sports Complex (4:30 p.m.) and Friday, March 13, at Cleveland (4 p.m.).

Connors State College in Warner has also provided assistance by allowing the Beggs baseball team to use its field for games during the same time period. The week’s baseball schedule includes Monday, March 9, at Holland Hall (5 p.m.), Tuesday, March 10, vs Holland Hall at Connors State College (4:30 p.m.), Thursday, March 12, vs. Morris at Connors State College (5 p.m.) and Friday, March 13, at Booker T. Washington (4 p.m.). The Beggs Demons baseball team will also travel during Spring Break to compete in the Gulf Coast Classic in Gulf Shores, Ala.

All softball and baseball game times and locations remain subject to change as additional information becomes available.

Despite the disruptions, several Beggs athletic and activity programs will continue with their scheduled events. The Beggs Band of Demons will still compete at their regional contest in Bartlesville on Wednesday, March 11. The golf team will continue practicing at South Lakes in Jenks before traveling to the Skiatook Boys Golf Tournament at Heritage Hills Golf Course in Claremore on Wednesday, March 11.

Beggs track athletes will continue practicing at the Beggs track facility and will compete at the Glenpool High School Track Meet, held in Bixby, on Friday, March 13. Please stay out of all damaged areas and follow all directions for parking sent out by Coach Sport.

Both the junior high and high school powerlifting teams will compete at the State Powerlifting Meet in El Reno on Thursday, March 12, and Saturday, March 14, respectively.

All other junior high competitions scheduled for the week of March 9-13 have been cancelled.

Coaches have contacted, or will be contacting, parents and players through approved school communication platforms to inform them of updated practice times and game schedule changes.

School officials expressed appreciation for the understanding and flexibility shown by parents and fans during what Shannon described as an unprecedented situation. Community members are encouraged to continue supporting Beggs student-athletes as they represent the school and community at distant sites. Now more than ever, Beggs student-athletes need the support of their community. Fans are encouraged to take note of the updated schedules and location changes and come out in full force to support these young athletes.

Parents and players are also asked to remain in designated parking areas on campus, as communicated by each sport, and to avoid entering any damaged areas.

Any changes to athletic activities scheduled after Spring Break will be communicated directly to parents and players as more information becomes available.

Once again, thank you for the continued support and prayers for Beggs Public Schools.
